As a Dakota owner people don't laugh when you drag an F250 around a parking lot. The original ride height for that truck was the same as that of 4WD Silverado of the same year because the 2WD and 4WD used the same size tires and suspension pieces. And even the V6 had the same torque of the 4.6 v8 in the ford of the same years

Two wheel drive saves more gas than any 4 wheel drive truck. Plus my two wheel drive truck has a V8. What does your truck have? Also if you don't lower the front or rear end it works just fine. Any two wheel drive can do anything a 4 wheel drive truck can, except of course mudding. I'm talking pulling power. And considering my two wheel drive truck is my recently dead father's truck. I will keep it no matter what

I've had both 4WD and 2WD trucks and can tell you don't always need a 4WD. I even had a 2WD Dakota with the offroad package and BF goodrich tires and went through sh!t that got 4WDs stuck (especially my buddies F150). My absolute favorites were my 2WD 85 S10 dually 1-ton and my 86 ranger with upgraded baja suspension that I ran trails with. My current truck is my custom built (by me) 79 Ram crew cab flatbed dually with the drivetrain out of a school bus and yes it's 2WD but I constantly tow 20k pounds with it and have yet to get it stuck on a job site. Maybe if you had manly tires on that Dakota it would've gone better

Glad someone said something. I was thinking most of what you said. I've got a 2000 (or maybe 2001) Ranger 2wd and have never been doing anything where 4wd would have helped much. In my experience using a landrover series both on and offroad on and around my property, the number of times i have REQUIRED 4wd/low/etc is less than anticipated. They are capable vehicles regardless, and unless I’m heading into mud or obviously difficult terrain i tend to leave it in 2H. Even carting loads is nbd. It’s wise to learn planning the best way through or around difficult land rather than jump right in. Then again, it was an enhanced engine install from the oem spec (lol)

Years ago, I would hunt in the Jersey Pine Barrens. The roads and trails are mostly sugar sand. One day, while bored, I decided to tribe the length of Bryant Road (check it out in Google Earth) in my 1993 Caprice Classic Station Wagon. With and open rear. One Wheel Drive. The funniest part was, when I was about 15 miles deep in the woods, a caravan of four-wheelers were heading in the other direction. Jeeps, Toyota FJs, an XTerra, etc, and all with knobbies and fording kits and farm jacks and winches and. . . Anyway, the look of utter amazement as I am heading past them in my war wagon with street radials, one hand on the wheel and one arm on the windowsill, just too sling along without a care in the world, was totally priceless. The most important thing to remember when driving in these conditions is DO NOT STOP - KEEP YOUR MOMENTUM. Sadly, this was in the days before dash and and GoPro.

I gotta say, the toughest truck I ever owned was an old Ford Ranger 2WD. It had the little 4-cylinder (that only ran on 3 because of burnt valves). I had that thing loaded up with topsoil like the Dakoter in this video and it walked it away just fine. Granted it would lose speed if it even THOUGHT it might be going uphill and took about 3 miles to get up to 60mph. Even so, up in Michigan and only running on three cylinders it would start with a key bump on the coldest winter mornings. It was a great beater truck, stick shift, no A/C, no power steering (not because it was broke, it never had it). It finally died on the way home from work one day when it started losing gears. No more 4th after the first stop, no more 3rd after the second, no more 2nd after the third stop. I pulled into my driveway with only 1st and reverse left. But yeah, if you're thinking of going offroad 4WD comes in kinda handy. Driving across the lawn doesn't count. Which is why I'm currently driving an F-250 2WD. It has enough traction to pull down a garage...that's the first thing I did with it after I bought it brand new.

Back in 1989 the railroad company I worked for before my retirement (Norfolk Southern Debutts Yard in Chattanooga TN.) purchased a fleet of new “yard trucks”…a little red Dodge Dakota was delivered in the mix of other brands)…all of the other trucks were the ubiquitous white) so this little dude stood out from the get-go…mixed in with offerings from GMC and Ford. It fell on my shoulders to take care of all maintenance on the “fleet” including their warranty work along with oil changes, etc. Long story short …when I retired in 2012 the little red Dodge was still going pretty much OK (railroad vehicles take a bunch of abuse)…but “Little Red” had never failed a pollution inspection or been “hospitalized” for a major mechanical 😅failure in my watch (just regular routine maintenance…brakes, oil changes, etc….it even had fewer flat tires (go figger that out ???)…that’s being said, it rode and drove like crap and the red paint job stood out for supervision to see if you were where you were supposed to be…overall the little Dodge was way better than the competition.

My 2003 ford ranger is 2 wheel drive and has the v6 3.0 and never gets stuck and i take it in muddy fields and drive it in the snow. Ford Ranger power. I call mine Clifford the big red truck because i use it like a half ton truck and pull loads its not supposed to. I am in high school and that's all i can afford now but never selling the ranger, will buy a different truck thats 4 wheel drive.

A 2 wheel drive truck is almost as useful as a paraplegic in an ass kicking contest

@stevemathew5281So do Toyotas. But not because they’re better. They last longer because they’re incapable of doing most jobs someone who abuses a truck requires. If it can’t do the work, it doesn’t receive the abuse, and therefore lasts longer. Surely if the truck never leaves pavement and doesn’t see the northern states, 2WD is superior. Less parts, less weight, less problems, better gas mileage. Hard to believe, but I once made it further in mud with a manual 2WD 87 F150 on junk tires, than a 3/4-1 ton conversion 97 Chevy 4x4 on decent tires. The Chevy got stuck on the way to pull out the Ford which made it 3x further. Obviously weight plays a factor is specific conditions.

My 79 ram might have something to say about that since I regularly tow 20k pounds of heavy equipment and have yet to get stuck at a job site

@@WontSeeReplies I built a 2WD 86 ford ranger with baja suspension and a turbo 2.3 4 banger that I run trails with and it's survived almost 20 years of abuse. I even pulled a 4x4 Silverado out of a mud hole with it. It's more about tires, weight distribution, and the driver

@@WontSeeReplies LMAO! ok so please tell me why I have a 2001 toyota tacoma with 379,000 miles on it and it has spent the majority of its life on construction sites and off road trails and it still runs good with only needing spark plugs, alternators, water pumps batteries, brakes, ball joints you know regular maintenance. There is no ford, GM or chrysler vehicle made since 2001 that could endure the same abuse that it has been through and last as long.

What if one cannot afford to do better, & can only afford whatever is available on Craigslist for the price of $800-$1k maximum?! I once got lucky & picked up a 2001 Land Rover Discovery 2 SE for $2k 4 years ago! Up until then, I never paid more than $300 for a vehicle since 1996! Work with what you got! LOL

Well if you didn’t have the front end slammed into the ground the bumper wouldn’t have come off either also would been a lot easier on the other stuff too lmfao 😂😂😂

Well maybe the front wouldn’t be slammed into the ground if it was a 4wd
