-looking out for signs is really important, usually the presence of a - sign can REALLLYYY change the final answer -not reading the given. ive fell into this mistake quite a few times and it cost me alot of marks :( -not editing what you wrote on a diagram. say for example you're solving circle theorems / bearings and you write an angle on the diagram then change your mind and write something different on the final answer area, you'll be penalized for the wrong answers on the diagram. i was a mark away from getting a full mark because of this :(
@GingerMathematician2 жыл бұрын
Editing the diagram with updated information is SO important - I think diagrams in iGCSE Maths is a whole video on its own... 😊
@mariyamajaz Жыл бұрын
coudl you elaborate on the last point?
@SaraMohamed-fp3kl Жыл бұрын
@@mariyamajaz ofc! so when you're solving circle theorems, you have a diagram with the circle and all the lines in it. let's say you have angle x = 65°. if you write x = 45° in the final answer area and label it 45° on the diagram while solving, and then later you realize it was wrong and change your answer in the 'x= ____' area, you have to change it on the diagram too and if you don't you loose a mark. does that make sense?
@mariyamajaz Жыл бұрын
@@SaraMohamed-fp3kl oh but isn't the diagram your rough working? If not, do they acc check it?
@bridgetroll9350 Жыл бұрын
@@mariyamajaz well yea it is but if you don't correct it then you contradict yourself, plus it'd confuse you anyway so best to change it as for if it's marked my teacher and private tutor both said yes they do mark it, and even incase they don't, it's best to change it just to be safe
@stephencharles69322 жыл бұрын
* not reading the question properly (or twice). Then possibly not giving the answer as requested (one mark dropped) e.g. 'give answer to 2dp' or 'give answer in standard form' or 'leave answer in terms of pi'. All instant one mark gone, sad! Rushing through to get to the answer fast because you really know the answer, getting too excited perhaps, can be a cause...slow and steady.

Reading carefully how the examiner wants the answer displayed is a fundamental skill irrespective which Maths exam it is... 🙂👍 How're you getting on Stephen? Long time no see!

random question but, when i find my self correct my past papers and look at the marking scheme, I find the 4-5 marker questions where you can get all the marks ONLY if you have all the steps included despite having the right answer, the problem Is I do make sure to write down every single step i go through to get my answer including the formula however sometimes theyre not similar to the marking scheme or in the right order, will that really make me loose my marks?
@GingerMathematician Жыл бұрын
The way we mark is to check for the right answer - if it is there then I scan to see supporting method for that answer is there in whichever order, then will award full marks 🙂👍
