Ive been here since about the "i made a mistake" video you made about 2 years ago and it's amazing to see how far youve come. From working on molly and sally in the garage at your house, to now working on a drift truck with a v8 in your very own shop. But youre still the same creator. Doing what he wants. Love the channel and keep doing what you are doing.

I couldn’t agree more and the funny thing is my buddy owns a shop and specializes in suspension (specifically air suspension), rat/hotrods/ and now really any any everything with wheels including bikes 🏍 and his own personal air bagged truck with a 350sbc has an almost exact strut brace but his has a upper bag bracket built into it as well and has been beaten daily with it like that for going on 16years with no issues at all and it definitely helped stiffen the chassis

Gareth weare or skip that for a small mill and one day add a lathe
@garethweare6441
@garethweare6441 6 жыл бұрын
I am not in America so I am not familiar with the quality, but for what he is doing there is no point in buying an expensive one... a cheapy will do just fine. Holes will always be straight and makes drilling through any thickness a breeze, even a bench mounted drill press is sufficient.
@garethweare6441
@garethweare6441 6 жыл бұрын
well yeah that is an option to... personally I am used to working will it all. first time I worked on a drill press it was amazing. then when I started working with a mill it just gave me the ability to do so much more. but most cases its cheaper to grab a small lathe and a drill press... in most home projects like this a lathe and drill press allow for so much already... a mill is just like a cherry on the cake in my opinion
@LoneRevD
@LoneRevD 6 жыл бұрын
Yup I agree, he's past the point of just needing a hole here or there. If your fabricating you need one seriously. Of course that would also require a drill press vise.... Speaking of vises, dude.. seriously do you like fooling around with woodworker clamps to hold your stuff down to drill a hole?

I’ve used that type of tubing bender before. A tip that was given to me that actually works really well. Lube the pipe where you are bending it. It will make a smoother bend. Keep up the good work.

Hey gingium love the build, but I would recomend putting gussets on the bends of the strut tower brace, as it will likely flex during drifting without them. 😀
@bigmikes2140
@bigmikes2140 6 жыл бұрын
Make a double shear bracket and weld it to the firewall. A strut tower of that height needs a brace preferably from each from the bends to firewall. Just make the supports like you did the strut bar nut and bolt mounted. Looking good though

Plenty of engines are offset from center. Some are even laterally mounted (lol, idiots). But I'm a little worried about the strut brace. Hope you bought high carbon steel, which is what's usually used for bracing. Because of the bends, mild steel will flex slightly, negating a lot of the purpose of putting in a brace in the first place.
@wowdogeful
@wowdogeful 6 жыл бұрын
If he went to a metal store and just bought standard sheet metal, it's probably just your standard construction steel (E295 or E335), which is an all around good steel for any kind of use. That high carbon stuff is stiffer, but it's also much more difficult to weld. Even if it's a pretty soft steel, it's still much stronger than having nothing at all. Standard construction steel is not perfect but good enough, which seems to be kind of a theme with this channel.
@wolfcastle8409
@wolfcastle8409 6 жыл бұрын
He should really triangulate it too by bracing the towers to the fire wall as well, since its going to be used for motorsport. Oops, should watch all the vid before commenting!
@wowdogeful
@wowdogeful 6 жыл бұрын
He even said in the video why that's not an option: The B2200 is a body on frame car, so the body and frame flex independently. Welding the strut brace (which is attached to the shock towers on the frame) to the body will not work.
@baloneyjusticecheezedog

John, I still could be adding more flange in alot of places.. It would not matter as much what kind of material he used if he really focused on making sure everything was flanged/reinforced. if it was flanged correctly he probably could pull the entire truck up off the ground at any point he wished without worrying if it would bend. right now I know if he attached a cable to the strut tower brace he start to pull the truck apart at the struts as he pulled up. a few more flanges would go a long way towards making his truck front frame more stable and solid.
@brandoncaldwell95
@brandoncaldwell95 6 жыл бұрын
WolfCastle He litterally just said its not possible. Body on frame truck not a mono. With that said, he does need to go from the outer edge to the lower of the frame. Be hard as the double wish bone build..

Just a suggestion that might save you some drill bits in the long run, is to always lube your surface and bit if your going to be drilling something fairly thick to keep it from getting hot and it will also help with the grabbing.

IDEA! 💡 strut support can use a mount to the firewall with a bushing? Just dropping that in case you really wanna attach it allowing for flex while minimizing movement.

Now that that's done... 1. Take the engine and trans out. 2. Weld up all the suspension. 3. Paint all of your subframe/suspension so it doesn't rust. 4. Get your eng/tranny back in.5. Get your drive-shaft measurement and send it to the shop. 6. Fuel system. 7. Electronics. 8. Fire it up.

After buying or building a work bench, the very 1st purchase I would make is a BENCH VISE. The level of fabrication you are doing, which is excellent, is being hampered by not having a vise. I also would have done a double pipe, for the strut brace. Not just for strength, but for looks as well.

i sorta paused the video bc i had to lay down another coat of paint but anyway MY ADVICE for the strut tower brace is to really beef up the inner corners with triangles bc if the towers do flex i have a feeling they would try to collapse the brace bc the corners are at such an angle. Keep up the great content Gingium

I know you said you want to turbo the 1Uz but please consider a roots supercharger. Turbos take up a lot of space and you won't need a ton of boost (or power) to slid a tiny truck around. Most roots can handle around 12 pounds of boost. That would get it around 400 hp!!

Before cutting, drill holes in the corners. you've made these metal pieces but you've overshot the corners with the grinder/dremel. this creates weak points were the metal will want to crack/flex in the direction of these over cuts. They mentioned this last week on MCMTV2 Skid Factory. Probably wont be an issue since you've welded over it but yeh... build coming along sick

I'm sure it's been said a few times but make sure you do a refresh on that 1UZ before you go to get it wired. It may have only 50k, but who knows what the service history was like. Obviously you'll be doing oil, but spark plugs a water pump and inspection of the timing system wouldn't be bad investments as well.

Add a brace to the firewall as well, it's not that much work, and by firewall, i mean, any point that's not within 1 cm of the windshield planum (for obvious reasons). 3 point structures are always better than 2 point ones. EDIT: you can, just add the same amount of movement as on the body. Crawl under, see what kind of bushings are there and make a sandwich plate that takes a stock "shim/bushing" in between. Then, it will all be ok.
