@quietlywhispering Жыл бұрын
A quick observation: I've noticed when youre designing magical girls you typically give the characters here all the same silhouette. The main Prisim casts have lots of different silhouettes and outfit styles that make them all look more unique. I think if you changed up the dress style amd make less of them cupcake/A-line skirts and dresses it might make the magical girls have a little more flavor to them 🩷 Loved the magical girls from this trial run 🪄✨️

Since their hair color doesn’t affect how powerful they are, would some of the less powerful girls dye their hair (or split dye it) to make enemies that don’t know this rule believe they are more powerful than they are? Kind of like how some nonvenomous animals facade as venomous ones to defend from predators that don’t know the difference? Just a thought! A suggestion for Dai Lu Zhang’s puppet could be to make it into a Chinese shadow puppet. They have a very different and intricate style, however they are beautiful pieces of art that honestly don’t get enough representation! It’s not necessarily tied to Lunar New Year, however I have seen them incorporated for festival usage before. I think it would also lend her some flexibility but still limits her magic set. For example the weapon would have to be operated with two hands, but to make it longer maybe she could “unfold” it to elongate. Or maybe she could operate it with one hand but it would be deemed slightly ineffective in comparison. Obviously just a concept but thought it would be a cool pitch! All the designs are beautiful and lovely ^__^

@mercurymade33 Жыл бұрын
The caduceus isn’t really the symbol of medicine. Or rather, it doesn’t make sense as one. The staff of Asclepius is a much better symbol (very similar but with no wings and only one snake). Asclepius was a mythological healer and is the god of medicine. Hermes is the god of many things, but medicine is not one of them. The most he has to do with medicine or health is taking souls to the underworld. Sorry for ranting, it’s just a small pet peeve of mine whenever I see the caduceus being used as a medical symbol.

Prediction: There will be a scene, where an especially tough battle results in one of the magical girls being out of power, and needing to recharge their Prism. So they have to rush outside in their fragile human form (possibly while their teammates try to protect them and provide a safe escape) and just point their Prism out to the Sun, bouncing on their toes, like "Come on, come on, come on-", and it's tense and dramatic, and oughhh.

@popstar_ZZZ4 ай бұрын
I like the idea that less powerful magical girls would have a more specific theme for their costume, because the “idea” itself holds less power- if that makes sense?? Like the theme of “Queen of Hearts Garden” is very specific and represents exactly what it means, where a theme like “love” is very broad and general and means many different things. The idea of “love” is also more precious to people as well. Essentially a broader, more “important” idea is given power by not being confined to a specific theme, giving more potential to the idea.

Maybe the reason their hair changes color is due to their light/prism based powers causing iridescence through the hair? And whatever color their hair changes colour to is the ‘iridescent’ color it results in. That way it’s a byproduct of their powers rather than an indicator of their power level?

RECOMMENDATION: for the last girl you should have taken advantage of the original random design’s skirt looking like a jellyfish. You could have implemented that into the design and maybe do something venom related for the weapon, like a syringe? I do really like the rest of the designs! It’s only the last one that I don’t think shines as bright as the rest. I do like the way you simplified the color palette tho!

I absolutely love that you chose to incorporate the hanfu in Dai Lu's design instead of the qipao, while they're both beautiful clothing pieces I think the hanfu generally gives a much more interesting silhouette and has a more mystical magical girl vibe (tho that may be bc i watch too much xianxia). If you end up keeping her I think it would be cool if you played around with the idea of giving her an outfit more inspired by the qingxiong runqun style, it's just so visually stunning and I think it would help pull her away from the tight bodice/big skirt default design that whisspertail mentioned in another comment! Also side note I think it would be funny if her prism had gone dormant or hidden away before the end of the Tang dynasty and when giving her the design it was like, 'ah yes I'll give her the most popular, stylish look for young ladies these days' and she was just so excited about getting to wear ancient Chinese fashion that the prism thought it had done a good job giving her a cute modern look. Idk if any of that translates well into in-universe prism rules, but its a fun thought lmao

Don't know if this helps, but when I come up with weapons the first thing I think about is how I want the style to feel. Do you swing it around a lot? Does it cut or pierce? Do you point and something happens? Does it respond to voice or will? Does it deal damage or change a target's properties? After that I think about how I want it to do the thing. Does it have to hit or touch the target? Does the user hold the weapon and think about the effect? Is the weapon sentient or semi-autonomous? Does it have a passive area of effect? Adding specifics and exceptions to the rules of the weapon makes this even more complex, and complexity is interest. Once I get here I start thinking about the physical form. Start with something basic, then add twists in the concept wherever you feel like. A pole or a handle? An item or a garment? A large or small object? Is it solid like a hammer or more loose like floating bits? Adding a theme to it can really make it stand out. Egyptian design aesthetics and history-related powers are a tried and true choice. Maybe you've got a weather power and zipping up your winter coat causes it to snow, while opening an umbrella creates a heavy downpour. I've seen a manga illustrator who could literally read people like a book and write commands into their minds that they could not disobey (Rohan Kishibe) Negative effects are another great way to add interest. I commonly see weapons that shorten the user's lifespan or cause them physical harm. You can go a different direction and bring morality into the mix. Let's say your power is good fortune. Using it makes all outcomes beneficial to you, but every good thing that happens forces someone else to suffer an equal and opposite consequence. You dodge a punch, someone else gets a fractured skull from a baseball. An item you brought was useful in the fight, someone else loses something that was absolutely crucial for something. You narrowly escape death, etc.

I am LOVING hearing about this world you are creating! also i love magic/power systems with rules that don't limit creativity but instead enhances it, which you have totally nailed! though i am interested in the reasoning behind all of their powers being based on hard light instead of a form of magic, from what little i know about it and hear from you, it sounds a bit limiting in the scope of their powers. Not that it's a bad thing of course, limits and rules make these systems interesting, just intrigued by the decision.

The queens garden girl using her paint like a wip and being rose themed reminds me of Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho and I love her

20:32 fun fact cyclops from x men does not have laser eyes. Thats why it doesn't burn. He has beams of pure kinetic energy. So what Im saying is. Cyclops is a prism magical girl

June: *Learns that Two Dots has collectible achievements* Two Dots: “Why do I hear boss music?” “PRISM canon” sounds like a late series arc ending supermove.

Question, who gets to be a magical girl? I know some are nonbinary, but do all of them need to be AFAB? Do they need to meet certain requirements, either from the Prism or the military? Both? Would Prisms be detached from magical girls that realize that fem-alligned identities don't fit them? All this questions came to me watching the video, and they are in good faith, being a trans lady, i genuinely wanna know how much the series touches on themes of gender and presentation, knowing how much magical-girl series emphasize the growth of girls into woman, and how the genre has always had lgbtq themes

The prism creatures don’t care about the identity of their host! It’s the leader of the PRISM organization who hand selects who is even allowed to go before the Prism creatures to see if one will select them as their host I don’t want to get too far into it right now because I don’t want to reveal too much about the show, but it’s got heavy lqbt and gender themes!

I adore Edelie’s design! I also think the puppet idea could work if it was a bit more like a paper puppet/kite

Are you alright with people making characters based on prism worldbuilding/lore? (With credit ofc)

I love that the Phoenix one has purple because I was just recently reading about the origins of the Phoenix and the word may mean "the purplish-red bird"
