From the Sam Houston Coliseum, January 19, 1979. Brutal war between two hated opponents. Gino broke the arm of "Supersoc", previously, and it looks like Gino has freshly shorn locks, so he must have just lost a hair match.
Awesome psychology & selling in this bout. Every move looks like it hurts, & blood not just for the sake of gratuitous violence.
Please comment if you like it & want to see more!

Rest in peace Gino and Jose. Whenever I stayed at my cousin's house in Lufkin we always watched the wrestling from Houston and San Antonio.I remember very vividly the feud between Gino and Tully Blanchard. In June of 85 I had the opportunity to see Gino wrestle in person at a football field in Gilmer Texas. He had just came to the WCCW territory and he wrestled Chief Jules Strongbow.I would have loved to have gotten his autograph, but heels don't sign autographs. He had so much talent. Its really a damn shame that he died so young.

Weather p ermitting we could get a grainy picture from channel 39 Houston here in Lafayette , La . I loved that you would see wrestling that was not heat seeking like the Dusty Finish or Bill Watts territory . It was straight wrestling . We knew there was bad blood but that was about ot . Not a lot of run ins etc etc...

Well, I've had a pro wrestling fetish since I was like 10ys old, I always ended up rubbin myself off through whatever I had on....my favorite matches were jobber squashes by a cocky arrogant heel, and Hernandez was one of my favorites to "enjoy" watching

I saw a Texas Death Natch in August 1981 between Gino (R.I.P.) and Chavo Sr. (R.I.P.). Tully Blanchard was suspended in a cage from the roof so he could not interfere. A very bloody affair...

Lothario got the nickname "Supersoc", from his brutal matches with Superstar Billy Graham in the early 70's....he reported hit Graham so hard, he took two of his teeth out in one match...a super sock....he had the hardest right hand in the business...before Ronnie Garcia.

This feud bled over into Midsouth in 1978 .... Gino cheated in their hair match so Lothario was wearing a mask with the shape of Texas as the face and Gino had long ( dry) Bleach blonde hair . By the time of this match you can see that Lothario got revenge and both wrestlers hair is grown out . Gino was getting a lot of heat at this time . He owed a lot to Lothario who helped get him over .Later another punk kid started teaming with Hernandez , Tully Blanchard and they lit things up .

The dye job was Gino's shtick in saying he wasn't Spanish. Would love to see (if it was filmed) the match where Jose finally shaved Gino's head. Gino wore a mask with a blonde wig attached for a few weeks (same thing Buddy Rose did after losing his hair match to Roddy Piper in Portland).

Liked the powder too much and while he did not wrestle like Ric Flair he so stole his killer yuppie gimmick to a T . Early in his career , just before this match , he wore pink robes and had long beleached hair . He was an obvious Ric Flair ripoff . Ric Flair was a lot more reliable than Gino . So Flair becqme champ and Gino never was considered .

If you had listened to the commentary, Paul Boesch explains the cage (or fence) is there to keep the wrestlers in the ring (and to keep fans out, wink, wink). To put it bluntly, the cage is simply for show. The object of the match is not to climb out of the cage but to incapacitate your opponent to the point that he can not answer the bell after a fall.
@tomberry5517
@tomberry5517 3 жыл бұрын
21:17 Ok, let me get this straight. Winner of the match is the one who wins the most falls. Hernandez is ahead 3 falls to 2. Why on earth would he want to get up if he wins by staying down?
@mattjack70
@mattjack70 2 жыл бұрын
It’s Texas death rules. Only way match ends is when you can’t finish after a fall and are unable to continue after the 1 minute west period and then the 10 count. You could lose 10 falls but continue and only win one dash but if your opponent can’t continue you win. Hope I cleared that up
