That was pop in the 80 music. Great musicians (Jimmy Haslip & Marc Russo - Yellowjackets, Dave Garibaldi - Tower Of Power). Try to imagine it nowadays…

Running in the human race 'round in circles No sense of time and space Or who we are Let me pour some water in your wine Let's talk about the future We should have better things on our minds anyway No time for words No time for wars It's high time we work it out No time for fighting No time for tears Somebody tell me what it's all about We could be making the best of the night But all we do is scream and shout Time out ..... for love Lovers on a battlefield A house divided Eyes that pierce like maked steel Through the heart Come lay your wounded body down And talk about the future Throw your weapons to the ground Before it's too late No time for words No time for wars It's high time we work it out No time for fighting No time for tears Somebody tell me what it's all about We could be making the best of the night But all we do is scream and shout Time out ..... for love No time for words No time for wars It's high time we work it out No time for fighting No time for tears Somebody tell me what it's all about We could be making the best of the night But all we do is scream and shout Time out ..... for love

Cheers Mike! Gino's style changed with the 80's - which disappointed some fans, but it's still hot today imho! :)

Thanks wolfy....yes it does lyrically, I also don't think the production has dated at all, or is it that I'm slightly biased? ;))

Definitely an improvement over "Black Cars." This is one the only post-A&M GV albums I own. I don't know what happened to him in the 80's but with the exception of "Nightwalker," he just seemed to lose it.

I love Gino Vannelli's stuff but i should specify i love his 70's material. Black Cars & Big Dreamers Never Sleep are totally Grower albums. After the amazing quality of his 70's albums both Black Cars and Big Dreamers are a bit of a letdown and totally 80's. Just found this cd yesterday in mint shape for $8. Wild Horses was the only hit i believe.

Yes, this is a popular opinion. I like pretty much all of Gino's work, but his artistic freedom with A&M records had been compromised to some extent, and in order for him to secure future recording contracts it was necessary to produce more widely accessible music. Personally I think he did a great job despite the corporate impositions. :-)

Are you saying that some of the Mindless Masses could handle his 70's stuff???. I know he was popular the Black Cars album had three good tunes. Oddly they were the three htis
@PhilWatson8 жыл бұрын
No, I'm saying that many fans prefer his mid 70's material, but Gino's 80's recordings still have their merits. And let's not forget the relatively easy listening sounds of "Crazy Life".
@MillerGenuineDraft19808 жыл бұрын
For sure The Nightwalker album ranks as his best 80's album. There are some gems Living Inside Myself and the title track and a few others. Black Cars had three good ones the slick writing of the title track, Just A Motion Away and Hurts To Be In Love. Iv'e only heard Big Dreamers once all the way through i just bought the cd the other day., Gotta give it a few more listens. I also just got for only $20 Canadian a Cd copy of A Pauper In Paradise (Gino's rarest and most costly Cd) well maybe tied with the Canadian Issue of Live In Montreal.

Well I've decided that BDNS is my favourite LP of all-time. I'm reaching an age when I can make such conclusions because it's already been 15 years since I heard something even remotely comparable. I liked it so much (on vinyl) that I bought the CD as well, four years before I got a CD player. It still has the original price sticker, 44.85 Deutche marks (about $27). For a glorious period in August/September 1987 all nine tracks on the album were in my personal top 10 and this was my #1 for four weeks. It's never going to get that good again.
