Hey Steve, Tania and Charlotte your videos are one of the highlights in my life! I have owned 28 horses in my lifetime and last year had to let my last one go to Rainbow bridge at the age of 27. Although I don't have horses anymore I am called upon from time to time, to help my friends with some of their horse problems. Watching your videos has made my job a breeze!! Steve, you are one of the BEST TEACHERS! Your gentle but firm and fair approach with perfect timing has been a priceless lesson for me. My friends have even called me a "Horse Whisperer" and I giggle under my breath and just peddle your name and You Tube channel to anyone who has the sense to listen. Thank you for making the horse world a better place for our beautiful fury friends!!!! 🤠🤩🥰

" Making our idea his idea." Simply brilliant. Heck, you can't clip an 8lb. cat's nails if they don't want you to! The only way is exactly this, using strategic treats & patience. It's watching your steps Steve, showing your audience how to do it step by step, brings it home. I have managed to get my cats to willingly offer their feet, but a one ton horse, would give me pause! Thanks for showing us all you do!
@fleetskipper1810 Жыл бұрын
I taught my cats to give me their feet for nail-clipping, too, and it makes life so much easier. I nestle them into the crook of one arm on their backs, like cuddling a baby. They feel secure-not treats necessary. They trust me. Been doing it since they were four-month old kittens. I reward them with a through body grooming with my fingers.

I have a 3 bedroom condo on the water in Ft Myers Beach, and I would be happy to let you have it except that Hurricane Ian pretty much decimated it. It will take another year to get it back to the way it was, but if you’re interested in the future, let me know. We watch weddings all the tine from the balcony. I’m very blessed because the 12 condo owners are able to build back unlike others who lost everything. So sad.

I've had a couple of these horses. Almost none of them ever learned to pick up a foot. The reason is that a trim of the hoof is never done out of hand. Why? Because only a leg weighs around a 100 kg. You really don't want to lift that by hand all day as a farrier. This horse does not only have abcessen. You can see a small start of a condition called CPL (Chronic Progressive Lymphoedema). This is a nasty condition that almost all Belgian drafts have and is incurable. What really helps and is very simple is to smear a home made remedy on the legs. You buy sunflower oil and sulfur flower. You mix it in a bucket (between 10-25% sulfur flower, which comes to roughly 100-250 grams of sulfur flower per liter oil) and smear it on the legs until about the knee. On the backside of the legs is enough. The sulfur is disinfecting for bacteria and fungus. It also dries out wounds and abscesses. The oil keeps the skin soft and flexible. The other thing about this mix is that flies and mites hate it. The oil suffocates the mites and flies hate to land on it. You can use it in the sun, since the sulfur flower is blocking UV-light. You can also feed the sulfur flower. Or mix it with water or oil, whatever you prefer. Give about 1 tablespoon per 400 kilos of horse. It is detoxing for the blood and lymph. It also stinks, so flies and mites stay away. It is important to keep these horses free of mites. A mite infestation is a disaster for these horses. You recognize mites by the horse pounding its hind legs on the floor hard and biting the front legs. The itch is horrible and mites are untreatable from the outside if a horse has CPL. So you make the fur toxic and treat from the inside. Cydectin Pour On works great and so does Dectomax. When using Cydectin, pour it on the mane, back and tail, but also on the inside of the hind legs (groin area) and armpits. It is being absorbed in the fatty tissue, so pour it where the skin is thin. When using Dectomax, be sure the vet injects it into the muscle and NOT in the bloodstream. It is deadly when it comes in the bloodstream. Dectomax is not without risk, but if you want the horse to cure from a bad mite infestation, you need to do this first twice in 3 months time. Only then you can start by treating from the outside. CPL is a very painful condition. It feels like walking on pins and needles. Ever had a sleeping limb? That is how it feels. It hurts bad. So touching it, clipping it and even softly brushing it is painful. They kick out of pain. I hope this bit of information helps someone. Even if I can reach only one person, I would be so happy!

Hi Steve et al, I live in Miami and know a lovely English woman who boards her horse where I board mine. She does flowers for weddings and special occasions, so I’m sure she knows a few wedding planners in South Florida and the Keys. Someone suggested St. Augustine also, which is very beautiful and you could also visit Ocala. Ocala is known for its Thoroughbred breeding and training farms, as well as the World Equestrian Center horse show venue. Let me know if you want more info! Congrats to the happy couple.🎉

When I was three my mother left us six kids. I had to go live at my Aunt's because I was too young for school. My Uncle Jack had a pair of Belgian workhorses called Kit and Dolly. I loved Kit and rode on his back hours in the hayfield. He was so broad he was like a bed for me. When I was scared or depressed I would sit between Kits feet. He would nibble my neck till I stopped crying. Dolly was not so tolerant. She pushed me backward. I've never forgotten those horses. This big horse gave me good flashbacks for a change...🙃🤣

That was a lot of horse. it's wonderful that you can get inside a hose's head and make it want to do things safely. Loved seeing your 3 horses come running when called and go right to their stalls. I find most animals respond that way when they feel safe, lead, and loved. Thanks so much for sharing.

My brother-in-law rode rodeo here in the US. He was of the mind that you walk up to a horse and punch it in the head so it knows who's the boss. I've learned so much from watching Steve's approach which is much better. Here in the US many of us who can't afford to own a horse rent by the hour at stables where you get to ride what is called a fully broken trail horse in a group on a trail through a forest like environment It would be amazing if someone like Steve covered how those of us who are hourly renting should approach a horse and what we should do before mounting other than the typical situation where you mount the horse, kick him to get him moving and follow the leader.

This is one of the rare breed of horses I have wanted for years. Since I first rode one I have always had a very strong preference for draft horses. I just love them so much. They are so huge but in general they tend to be more gentle and amiable horses. By no stretch of the imagination am I an experienced rider so I NEED a horse that is gentle and forgiving. This fellow has me just giddy looking at him.

You both make a great team and the animal kingdom and the world are much better for it. I am so very happy to have found you both- watching for approximately three months now. Congratulations to Charlotte! As someone who lived in Florida for 6 years, I can recommend to watch weather forecasts for hurricanes if she is planning to do that in the summer time. Though, regular summer storms can happen frequently coming in off the ocean. Hurricane season usually last through September, but can go longer lately. but Florida is far south that it stays nice later if she wanted to avoid hurricane season.

Good advice about watching the Florida weather for planning any trip. Thing I don't understand is why you'd want to leave such a beautiful place as Wales to go anywhere else. Seems to me you have all the gorgeous landscape and seascape needed for a wedding. I hope it works out beautifully for Charlotte and Dan and the whole family, wherever you decide to celebrate! But if I were you.... I'd stay in exquisite Wales.

It is this type of cold blood, work horses that the term Horsepower is based on ;) puts stuff in perspective, right? And they are, on average, 3 times stronger than a normal riding horse. Seeing them pull a log or plow and how their muscles tighten, is just impressive. They are so robust and usually indeed have a very kind and gentle character.

I love watching you work with different horses and their problems, I really enjoy hearing you talk through the process. It’s knowledge that you are sharing with the world and knowledge is Key!! 🔑 I only have one detail to say about the lick at this very moment ( 38:30 ) she keeps it a bit far away from him so he looked like he wanted to take one step closer to her and to do that he had to put his foot down, if the lick would have been a bit closer I’m sure he wouldn’t have thought about taking that step. That’s just my observation in that moment. But other than that little detail you did so Good!!! ❤❤❤

I started my working life as an apprentice Blacksmith at 16 after leaving School and my boss just so happened to be a Farrier also by trade. As the new apprentice it was my job to support him in this role when a shoeing job came in. He shod all sorts from ponies to Stallions it was a wide and varied job. The most extreme was a white stallion which was owned by a local Vet and it couldn’t be shod without a snitch. My boss hated doing this Horse for several reason but the primary one being his back and his age. He was fast heading for retirement but seen this Horse as wee marker that he could still cut it at his age. The funniest was a rather rotund pony who was so docile it would tend to fall asleep on its feet during the process. Which it did when I was there but this time it actually fell over and sent my boss over the side like Valentino Rossi catching a high side off his Yamaha. I was in stitches but the look my boss gave me was one of laughter,pain ,embarrassment and confusion. One second he’s there the next he’s flying without wings.
