The backgrounds here for each of the guys were created by Eli (bald rock tenor, in case you're still learning their names) in the game software Unreal Engine. He mentioned that he wished the environments could have been more immersive instead of it feeling like the guys are just standing there and this straight-on camera shot. If you watch Valhalla Calling, which many people consider a sequel to this one due to them both being Viking songs and the guys playing the same characters, you will see the upgrade that Eli was able to achieve just about a year later. VoicePlay are always improving on their craft, no matter the aspect, and it definitely shows.

I first saw Home Free, and liked the videos I've seen, then I saw PTX and like some things they did, and then I saw VoicePlay and was blown away by them. Why do I love them so much? It's lots of things. They are independent and do it all themselves, no record company to answer to. Their range of genres is huge and I have wide tastes in music. Their arrangments are, in my opinion, second to none and better than most, and they bring so much emotion to a song. Last but not least their relationship with their fans and their humility, their beautiful natures just shines through everything they do. They just seem more real. More human. Lovely people with a great sense of fun.

Christine... What a wonderful comment! I started with Pentatonix a number of years ago (2014, maybe?). Then Home Free, Voctave, and finally VoicePlay (just last year). While I love all of them, VoicePlay has emerged as my favorite (if forced to pick one).

They have really progressed & found their niche in the world of a capella! If you review their Sound Off videos they weren't nearly this good! They competed against Home Free & HF won. But Geoff & Tim became good friends. Geoff credits Tim for teaching him how to perfect those low sub harmonics! And I'd say Geoff was a GREAT student! 🤗 In a recent interview, Geoff said Tim is probably one of the greatest musicians he's ever met. Members of HF - and even Avi from PTX - have collabed with Voice Play. I'd love to see a good collab with VP & HF! It would be great!

This was the first time I realized that Eli could channel a homicidal maniac. And Geoff does his Viking warhorn imitation that seems to go on forever! As others have said, Valhalla Calling is considered by fans as the sequel to this video, since the guys all stayed "in character" for that one - just substitute Cesar for Jose. Eli did the backgrounds for both videos, and the difference a year makes and the newer technology can provide are really evident in that one.

VoicePlay is my favorite of the big 3 acapella groups. You mentioned Pentatonix, Home Free is the 3rd. They do a great job, as always. Also, check out Saltatio Mortis' version of this song. wonderful reaction, thanks. This one was arranged by Layne, the beatbox. If you haven't yet listened to Warriors, you must. The sound is stunning. It's just over 3 years old, but to my ears, it marked a sea change in the sound. It's not a spoiler to say what's visible in the thumbnail - Layne plays violin. But it isn't the addition of the instrument, it's something about the way he wove it all together and harmonized it. It's the performance that changed me from a fan to an obsessed fan. Still gives me chills.

For a little context - this was made during lockdown, so the guys all recorded AND filmed separately, some at home using green screen - there is a hilarious bit in the BTS of Geoff in full costume, in his kitchen making some lunch! VoicePlay is outstanding. They do everything they need to have done themselves. They will occasionally hire someone in for something like makeup or protheses. That way they get to do their own creation.

The follow up to this one is "Vahalla Calling" (2/3 years later). Context between this and "Vahalla": J.None join the Navy, Cesar Join VoicePlay, J.None join them in song when on leave, and is the guess/featured artist in Vahalla (Geoff, Lain, Elis, Cesar, J.None).

Just wait till you catch VoicePlay's new release; it's an amazing auditory feast arranged by Eli and Layne. Look for their cover of Black Hole Sun. I know they do the mixing before sending it off to legendary engineer Ed Boyer for final mixing, but he must have said "Dudes; really" quite a few times. You will enjoy it immensely.

Ginx just to make sure when you do the wintersun reaction for me make sure you select the wintersun sons of winter and stars 1.5 lyric video. And if possible on the same reaction right after that listen to the wintersun sons of winter and stars live rehearsal video at Sonic pump studios in Helsinki Finland. The reason why is since your a experienced audio engineer if you can analyze why the lyric version and the live rehearsal version sound different to me. Maybe you can figure it out. To me it sounds like in the lyric version the guitars are hardly audible but the synthesizer is more where in the live rehearsal the guitars are more audible and the synthesizer is less. just a observation of mine I've listened to both so many times but your the expert. I know it's supposed to be a reaction but you could make a analysis on what you find and give an explanation for us technical people like myself. When you do your analysis you'll probably be throughly geeking out how wintersuns audio engineer mixed their vocals and instruments so well. And by the way for you ginx and your fellow subscribers it's been announced that wintersun has just released their legendary demos and wintersun time 2 albums. So ginx and every body get theirs now before jari of wintersun takes another 20 years before he puts out another album like the last one lol. So ginx get started on your wintersun rabbit hole.
