Throughout the popular Gion Festival period in July there are various rituals and forms of entertainment put on all over Kyoto for those who came to see the festival to enjoy and participate in. Folk dances performed by local children, action-packed kagura plays, dynamic drum concerts, and graceful dances by apprentice geisha are only a few of the many performances on stage and in the streets throughout the month. For those who want to watch or participate there are colorful parades and a summer purification ritual as well. Our team stopped by the Omukae Chōchin ritual, the Hanagasa Junkō parade, the Kankōsai portable shrine journey, and the Eki Jinja purification ritual in order to capture the sights and sounds of this famous festival month. Come along with us and get a taste of what the Gion Festival has to offer beyond its more famous float procession!

so much beauty all in one place... if i could experience that in person, i might find it almost overwhelming. i don't think i'll ever have the chance to go to japan, but if i ever could, this is the sort of things i would go there to see.

You forgot to mention the origin of the festival. (Middle of July ) The Gion Festival began in the prayer that any pestilence might not occur among the nation. This was the same as the Israeli king Solomon who began festival (in the 7th month (15th day), feast of tabernacles) in Jerusalem just after the completion of the Holy Temple construction, with his prayer that any pestilence might not occur among the nation. Kyoto used to be called *平安京* (Heian-kyo) 平安 means peace. 京 is capital which is where *Kyoto* comes from, It was the capital of japan for a very long time. Jerusalem also which means city of peace in Hebrew, and Jerusalem is also the capitol of israel. Yasaka came from the Hebrew-Aramaic word Yah-sakka, meaning faith in God.

According to people studying the relationship between ancient Israel and Japanese traditional culture, GION is said to be a change in ZION. GION is a part of Kyoto. The city of Kyoto was built by the HATA family, who was naturalized from ancient China to Japan. Researchers say the roots of the HATA family are in ancient Israel. The HATA family who built Kyoto was not Jewish but converted to Nestorianism. Of course, their ancestors would have believed in Judaism. Therefore, traces can still be seen in various cultures in Kyoto.
