Giraffe Build Series! This is the part 4 of a multiple part series on building giraffes!
Today is Day 195 of the Metal Relic video challenge! The script is mine, the voice is AI's.
Back to the jig, it's a really simple design that has proven invaluable in the construction process. When I first started making the giraffes, I encountered significant issues when attaching the legs. The main problem was that I couldn't get them to look right and achieve the correct positioning. This inconsistency was frustrating and time-consuming. To solve this, I decided to build a jig that would hold the body securely in place while I ensured the spacing was correct from the top of the leg to the surface. This addition significantly improved the precision and stability of the assembly process. I also added a huge nut on one side to act as a counterweight, which helps keep everything balanced and steady during welding.
Fun Fact: A giraffe's tongue is typically black, blue, or purple and can measure 18 to 20 inches long. This unique adaptation helps protect it from sunburn while feeding on tall trees in the savannah.
Once the legs are all securely attached to the body, the next step is to weld on the tail and form the neck and head.
