9.2 WAR is crazy considering the penalty for DH, which is -1.7 this year.
@craigwheeler4760Ай бұрын
Which is why Ohtani is going to be the very first DH to win the MVP. The 2nd best WAR for a DH was Edgar Martinez in 1995 or so with like 7.0

Skubal had 15 more innings than Sale, more strikeouts, a lower WHIP and also won a triple crown. Not sure where Sale gets the nod over him tbh.
@DeeptocenterАй бұрын
Also Riley Greene had 24 home runs, 5.4 bWAR and an .827 OPS and was also a good defender with 2 OAA, how in the world does Kwan get a mention for LF over him.
@jbryant5253Ай бұрын
Sale had a slightly lower ERA and 3 less strikeouts in 15 less innings, that and all the stuff Marc listed Sale had a higher ERA+ and in 2 less games had just .1 less WAR Sale was better, not by a whole lot, but he was better
@DeeptocenterАй бұрын
@@jbryant5253 “lower ERA” it was a 0.01 difference lmao. 15 innings is heavily worth noting. Sale was incredible but Skubal deserves his nod for being the best pitcher in the game this season.
@jbryant5253Ай бұрын
@@Deeptocenter If you'd take 3 seconds to read you'd see that I clearly typed "SLIGHTLY lower ERA", no Skubal was not better than Sale, the statistics say so. Skubal was very, very good and I am very much willing to say he will be better than Sale next year, but THIS year Sale was better, also 15 innings is 2+ starts, that is definitely worth something and had Sale made the start the Braves decided to let him skip at the end of the year he would have higger WAR, more K's and if he allowed 1 or less runs would have had an even lower ERA, Sale was better
@solrneon2116Ай бұрын
@@jbryant5253by that same logic, sale could’ve started that last game and got blown up for like 5 runs. I’m a cubs fan so i dont personally have a dog in the fight but Skubal was the better pitcher this year both from the eye test and advanced stats slightly favoring him

It’s absolutely insane, and this is coming from a diehard Yankees fan that wants to say judge is the gospel and that’s it. Baseball has gotten SO top heavy right now though - there are not a lot of upper tier level players but I feel like there are more replacement level +/- players in starting spots than ever. The fact that the top left fielder has a 3.6 WAR shows that. Kinda wild, and makes what shohei, judge, Witt, Soto and others THAT much crazier

Considering that Soto is likely going to get even better, since at age 26 he is basically just at the beginning of his prime (at least when it comes to baseball players) its going to take another 2023 season from Mookie to remain in the discussion for best RF in MLB, especially since Acuna will return from injury and Tatis is also due for a bounce back season
