Rickey Henderson at #23 is an absolute joke. He has nearly 500 MORE steals than the second place guy. He’s the also the all-time leader in runs scored and was the all-time walks leader until Balco Bonds was walking 150 times a season. He was also a very good fielder. Rickey would drive opposing pitchers crazy. He would work a pitcher to draw a walk or get a hit. He would then distract the pitcher by stealing bases. If he concentrated on power he would have certainly hit 500 home runs. As it is he nearly hit 300 homers. At WORST Rickey is a top 10 player and the lead off hitter on a team of the best players ever assembled. As far as total impact players, it’s either him or Mays that should be considered the greatest of all-time.

I had the honor of meeting Mr. Robinson just a few years before he had passed. My high school baseball team's gear had been stolen. Frank had heard about it in the news and came to our field to donate what had to have been thousands of dollars worth of equipment. I'll never forget that day and how privileged I was to meet him.

Speaking of high school teams, Frank was part of what was easily the greatest high school outfield ever. In the early 1950s at McClymonds high school in Oakland, CA Frank shared the outfield with Curt Flood and Vada Pinson. All got drafted by Cincinnati, all became All Stars. No other high school outfield is even remotely close to this.

Cy young’s number don’t translate like they do today. K/9 under 4. Never got to 3000 despite pitching 7000 innings. He’s just hard to rank. If you were to take one guy from this old school era it’s clearly Walter johnson

More than half of his career predates the American League. The ball was also very different during almost his entire career. The league changed the ball slightly before Youngs last season and runs and homeruns across the league went up a lot. They also didn’t always change balls back then since they either only had a few or maybe had to play the game with one ball. So the ball would be scuffed and very dirty and possibly even be covered in tobacco spit since spit balls had not yet been banned. All of that would give a pitcher a huge advantage. Cy Young was one of the best of his era but his era was too long ago to compare todays players.

I'm surprised Nolan Ryan did not make this list. Literally the strikeout king with 5714. Only pitcher to pitch 7 no hitters. He is an 8 time all star. Sure he found his stride later in his career but still.

Non of those things you mentioned about Ryan determine how good a player is. Nolan Ryan is absolutely not a top 25 player he’s probably in that 60s range. He had 83 war in 27 years and had a career 112 ERA+ he was really great but he’s easily the most overrated player of all time.

It doesn't count but he did in his two shorten seasons hit.400. So average lifetime would have been higher. He would have easily equaled every number Ruth hit and more.

Babe Ruth has to be number 1 for the simple fact that he was well on his way to being one of the 5 greatest pitchers who ever lived before deciding to hit full time. His 6th season in 1919 was the first time he played in over 100 games and his 5th season in 1918 was the first season he had over 200 plate appearances. Imagine 5 more seasons of numbers he could have put up. Probably would have 800 HR.

Where are Eddie Collins, Chuck Klein (1929-1933 short career), Ralph Kiner (8 Home Run Titles), Albert Belle (1991-2000), Frank Thomas (1991-2000), Jeter Wagner TSpeaker JFoxx HGreenberg JMize, etc et al. 3) Steroid tainted players: Pujols Bonds Clemens ARoid Bagwell Helton McGwire Sosa Palmeiro IvanRod Piazza Canseco MRamirez DOrtiz Sheffield JuanGon Giambi Pettitte RBraun MoVaughn Gagne Caminiti BretBoone, etc et al. List the greatest of all those who's stats improved after age 30 and into their 40s. Make a revised list of historic baseball records WITHOUT those involved with steroids. Steroids ruined baseball's greatest passion: stats leaders MVPs records ~ too bad. The Steroid tainted players ruined my love for baseball, and many other fans of the game. Couple things you didn’t mention about Albert that may be most impressive. He never struck out more than 100 times in a season, and he finished his career with more xbh than k’s. Prime Pujols is a top 2 or 3 hitter all time.

Prime Albert is top 25 but he was a big disappointment in Anaheim. None of the others had such issues. I am a big Albert fan but not in the top 10 if you look at the whole picture.

I always find it tough to argue against Babe Ruth as the greatest baseball player of all time. Offensively, he was up there with anybody who's played the game, AND he was an elite pitcher in his time as well. There's nobody in baseball that could match that. The only argument against him is the time in which he played, which doesn't satisfy me. We judge everybody else by the time in which they played. Why nitpick Ruth while giving players in the steroid era a pass?

Great video! I would have included Lefty Grove somewhere on the list. In 17 seasons he led in E.R.A. 9 times and K's 7 times. Although I love Mel Ott, Tris Speaker was better. Tris was the Willie Mays of his time. He had 3,514 hits, a record 792 doubles, 222 triples, 436 steals, .345 AVG, .427 OBP, .500 SLG, 3 titles. He had 449 outfield assists. Cobb is a distant second with 392. The problem with Ott (and I love Mel Ott) are his splits. He hit 323 of his 511 homers at home. Against the Phillies at Shibe Park he hit .415 in 119 games with 40 HR and 162 RBI. His OBP was .508 and slugged .774. When the Phils moved to the Baker Bowl he hit .220 in 71 games with 0 HR and 33 RBI. His OBP was .330 and he slugged .272. A 1.282 OPS compared to .602.

Nobody was going to lead the league in homeruns playing for St Louis when Musial played there, the park was huge which is why he had so many triples. I would argue Jeff Bagwell. Almost all the hitters people talk about played in hitters ballparks. Jeff Bagwell spent almost his entire career playing in the ultimate pitchers park. For example the year Sosa and McGwire chased the homerun record, Bagwell hit more homeruns on the road than either of them. But he lost so many homeruns playing in the Astrodome he was not even close to them in the homerun race!

Projecting those games missed out he’s likely the home run king and has 3k hits and in the conversation as best ever not just top 10. Trout has already missed about 2 seasons due to injury. When it’s all said and done those 2 years can add up to a lot of extra stats. That’s all I’m really comparing

Pretty good list, my only gripe is that Rickey henderson should be higher. He is THE ultimate run generator. The leadoff hitter or all leadoff hitters. His combination of discipline, hitting and speed on the basepaths was something that I don’t think we will ever see again. We are more likely to see another 600-700 hr player then we will seeing a 1400+ sb, 2200+ bb, almost 2300 run player. That alone should make him a top 10-15 player. It’s a minor gripe, but Rickey def deserves more love when it comes to talking baseball

You need to title this “Top 25 MLB players based on mostly batting statistics and my personal opinion” caption: not the 25 best players of all time because unbreakable records, post season stats and overall player impact on their team and all of MLB have nothing to do with my rankings. Pujols #6 is madness. No disrespect to Pujols at all, but even he would disagree with this, a 10 year long DH over Mickey Mantle? A-Rod’s slot is even more madness. This list is based strictly on regular season stats and accolades. Tony Gwynn and Pete Rose aren’t mentioned? Carl Yazstremski(however that’s spelled), Johnny Bench, Brooks Robinson, I’m gonna stop there because I just realized how many people are on the list I’d make right now when I think of players that were better than Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez. This list is ridiculous. Started out solid, finished completely backwards. This is a statistical list revolving almost exclusively around hitting so I don’t believe you when you say a ton of work and effort went into this because you didn’t consider fielding, clubhouse impact or playoff baseball/meaningful games comparison. You looked up hitting/pitching stats(not nearly enough pitching since you left Cy Young off the list)and took the guys that had the best numbers, and then splashed in some guys that you had a fanboy love for because you saw them during the steroid era(how do you accept steroids and choose Pujols when he wasn’t even the best hitter on his team behind Mark McGwire). Where the hell is Nolan Ryan? Sandy Koufax? Jim Palmer? I mean this list is totally insane dude. A-Rod and Pujols top 10 overall players of all time, I feel like this video is a prank intended to gaslight me into rage commenting. So I’m done here. Didn’t hit over .400 each year, but the average of the 5 years is over .400. The Rajah. A little bit more on Albert. Never struck out more than 93 times. I like this ranking. But I would had Nolan Ryan. Yes, his win column doesn't support it, but take into mind that he played on mostly losing teams. There was a period of a month with the Astros where he only gave up 4 or 5 run in a 4 game span, and still lost or no decision in those games cause the Astros couldn't score more than 2 runs. His 7th no hitter, he didn't know if he would be able to pitch cause of his elbow, but he warmed up and he went back to the dugout and told his team 'all I need is 1 run tonight boys.'

If this guy took his top 25 players and made that into a MLB roster, as great as they are, they wouldn't win many games. All those great pitchers - Pedro, Seaver, both Johnsons, etc. - throwing unhittable pitches...that would all go to the backstop. Even all the batters striking out would reach base. There would be an endless parade of base runners circling around to score. All because he doesn't have a catcher. Johnny Bench has to be on this roster.

DiMaggio is underrated, easily top 10. Overshadowed by the bigger media of the 50s and 60s and Baby Boomer fans that love Mantle and Mays. DiMaggio was a stellar defensive outfielder and had a cannon for a throwing arm before a shoulder injury about halfway through his career. He averaged about 1 HR per strikeout. (361 HR vs 369 SO) while missing some prime years in the military. Dimaggio hit 8 World Series HR - none at Yankee stadium, because it was so skewed for left-handed batters.

You underestimate Rickey Henderson. He is the career scoring leader. In 1985 he scored 146 runs finishing 30 ahead of 2nd pace. He didmthis on a team that hit only .267 and he did it in only 143 games. Rickey Henderson is the best scorer to play since 1950 and his defense was stellar too.

Rivera is definitely one of the most skilled pitchers ever, but his value as a reliever just doesn't allow him to be considered a top 25 player bc his impact was limited only pitching 1-2 innings out of the pen as opposed to some of these starters who went 8-9 innings. For me The Ryan Express was the most amazing “offensive” pitcher the game has ever seen with his strikeouts and complete and perfect games but his “defensive “ stats bring him down. He gave up too many homers and way too many grand slams, lots of losses and walked way too many batters. Still, as a young kid, I never saw a more dominant physical pitcher and the fact he could still throw a fastball over 100 in the 8th and 9th inning of several games is a testament to his raw physical presence.

Barry Bonds is living proof that steroids make a big difference in performance. It's believed that he started using steroids at around 2000. Before that his stats were very consistent (consistently great, but nowhere NEAR what was about to come). Single season he had topped out at 46 home runs, .336 batting average and 151 walks and a slugging percentage of .677. Then ALL OF A SUDDEN, at the age of 37 he hit 73 home runs (24 more than his previous best) and slugged .863. He batted .362 and .370 at the ages of 38 and 40 (around 30 points higher than his career best he achieved in his 20s). At 40 he was walked 232 times. The reality is without cheating he'd probably be over 100 home runs shy of the record, might not be the all time leader in walks and would probably lose about 10 points in his career batting average. And would NOT be the greatest baseball player of all time. End of story.

Ted Williams missed nearly 5 full seasons serving in WWII and the Korean conflict. And these were 5 years that he was in his prime. If he had played those 5 years and only averaged what he had already done, he would have had nearly the same Homeruns as Ruth.

Mays had a better arm than Bonds and lost a bunch of home runs due to seals stadium ridiculous left field demension. Adjust for that and his missed year for military service and he probably matches at least Ruth and possibly Aaron for home runs. He was a better hitter for average than bonds and Aaron.
