​​@@peterparker2068 Hey, they're are other things to maintain in a car beside the combustion engine related stuff. Things like the gearbox, wheels, brakes, batteries, filters ... etc. I switched to a bicycle and even that requires regular maintenance.

Wow, Dad knows to add oil to the filter. Way to go Dad! Rachael, you do not want big torque on either the oil pan or filter bolt. Good choice of oil as well. Any name brand is good...with correct viscosity and synthetic. Pro tip: Best thing you can do if you want to keep the car well out of the warranty is change ALL the fluids often...brake fluid, engine coolant...ALL fluids....including auto transmission fluid.

The oil in the filter is critical - you want those seals lubricated before you install the oil filter. Otherwise it may not settle correctly. Glad your dad pointed this out it is so important.

Don't forget you can also use the curb for a ghetto jack to reach the oil drain plug. But it is great to see someone other than your average dude interested in automotive stuff

I highly recommend you oil the dip stick at the upper ring. In other words, the dip stick has a plastic part you hold and it turns into a metal piece that inserts into the engine. The plastic piece has a rubber ring. Oil that with your finger or you can use a little of the old oil. The reason it needs to be oiled is because they sometimes break off and you won't be able to remove it. The reason they break off is because over time the heat from the engine cooks the plastic and the rubber ring gets stuck because its dry. That's when it breaks off causing a major problem in removing it to replace it. If you keep it oiled you are less likely to have that problem. Good video.

But you are doing something for everyone and I respect that so keeping my comments professional and hoping you will answer my question. You mentioned you keep that old oil filter just in case something happens to the car. 1. Are we supposed to keep all oil filters? 2. What is the reason your dad recommended adding oil in the new filter before installing. 3. What do you do with old oil how do you recycle it? 4. Workshops keep information on when oil change was done on your vehicles. How do you keep track and is that is expected by insurance companies in case of an accident or if your car breaks down?

My first job at out of High Schoolworking at an oil Service Change center, of course we pre lube filters. It's not rocket science and it's so easy to do. Even the non paper filters we'd fill the spin on oil filter with a bit of oil. Also even lube the gasket with oil too for easier removal next time.

Yeah great tip on lifting the car with wood. I have a lowered car and have to do a similar thing. Just getting a jack under the car is hard enough with how low it is. Not to mention if a car falls from the car jack.
