I was dress coded over a skirt. Storytime! So it was Valentine’s Day and I was feeling very cute and quirky. So I wore this skirt. It was a bit see through but it had a bottom part that wasn’t see through at all. I was of course in dress code but just to be sure I wore leggings underneath. I was fully okay and in dress code. I went to school and this is where is goes south. The Vice Principal’s Assistant stops me after I sat down to start eating. She told me to go with her to the front office, me confused af went, “Pardon?” And she gestured for me to follow her. So I threw away my food that I never even gotten to and followed her. She told me to sit down and that she’d call my mom. My mom, frustrated and wanting sleep now that her children are gone, grabbed me some jeans and drove to school. After a while my mom came to school with my jeans and the first thing she said when she saw the Vice Principal’s Assistant was “Where’s her a**?”. The Assistant stood there in silence then tried to explain the situation with my mom who was not having it. After a while the Assistant had to plead my mother into a room where no one else would be able to hear her, and where the Assistant wouldn’t be embarrassed. My mom had a chat with her sometimes saying “I wanna see the person above you.” (Aka the principal who my mom has known for 4 years straight). I was sent to change my pants and then we had a chat with the principal. Long story short the principal had a chat with the vice principal’s assistant and after that day I always got the weirdest looks from the assistant.

I got dress coded for wearing the wrong shade of red. Story time: Back in middle school, we’d have red ribbon week (A week dedicated to saying no to drugs) and on one of the days, the entire school would wear red. I technically didn’t have a basic red-colored top, so I wore a flannel, which was burgundy (I thought it was close enough); however I’ve worn the flannel for red ribbon week before, so I didn’t think I’d have any problems. I also wore a black skirt (which wasn’t a problem at all since we literally wore skirts as our uniforms). In 8th grade, the fifth grade teacher announced in the morning that she’d be going around each classroom and just making sure we were wearing red ( She’d typically do this when it came to special occasions just to see how school-spirited each class was ) I didn’t think I’d have a problem, since I’ve worn the same flannel for the previous two years. However, she saw me and took me outside the classroom and told me that the color I was wearing wasn’t red, but was more purple. I knew it wasn’t exactly red, but when I heard that she was gonna give me a detention for it was just crazy. And since I never had a detention before, I was pretty upset; instead she made it a lunch detention, which I was still upset about, but hey..at least I didn’t have to stay after school. (I did miss out on playing with my friends tho..) Also, when it was cold, we weren’t allowed to wear leggings underneath our skirts. Plus, we didn’t have heaters. (Or AC’s for that matter..)

OK quick explanation for the shoulder thing. The reason that it only applies for girls is because sometimes in summer when girls wear tank tops the shoulder straps will break and show some stuff that was only for my school because my dad was the principal so I don’t know about this person, but that was how it worked at my school.

Dress code doesn’t let them show their shoulders and have short shorts. Yet when it’s the swimming carnival they let the girls wear bikinis. Edit- I didn’t even know at some places they MAKE girls wear a bikini! I only ever wear a one piece (I sunburn really easily)

Last day of school, the vice principal takes all the girls into one room and explains about how we are not allowed to wear anything with shoulders showing and other pieces of clothing. Not even allowed to wear ripped jeans, the funny thing is the TEACHERS wear ripped jeans. I was so mad and keep in mind no boys were talked to when there where plenty of boys in my class that wore ripped jeans and shirts with shoulders showing. She even had the nerve to say that the dress code wasn’t made for a specific gender, but here we are just the girls in a separate room talking about it. No girls had ever violated the dress code because of this matter. I think that schools across America and the world should update their dress code. It’s extremely unfair and outright ridiculous. The first day in my new school the principal pulled together the whole of 6th grade and told them about the dress code. It was reasonable and she was not being sexist about it. What a world we live in.🤯
