People grow up differently. I grew up like Maya, but had friends like Riley. They loved the amount of freedom I had because they didn't understand how much their lives can be longed after. You can't be mad at them for that. She's just saying how she felt. she's not saying Maya shouldn't be upset with how her life went.

Watching this back I noticed that Riley kept putting purple paint on Maya while Maya used the paint on the canvas instead. I feel like Riley was still “suffocating” Maya with her perfect life and privileges (cause of her family) while Maya was mainly painting on the canvas, kinda like protecting her from her imperfect life. In my opinion, after the blue paint and they started fighting it felt like it was symbolism for when Maya started “turning into” Riley, Riley finally tipping Maya over the edge.

Some thing I found really interesting is that as my loses herself she kind of turns to lighter colors and more of Riley‘s kind of style whereas Riley actually turns to darker colors in a more grungy style than when we first see her

I don't like Riely in the third season. Because she's forcing Maya to be bad. Riely doesn't want Maya to be like her. Riely was having an identity crisis but she forced it onto Maya. Maya had genuine feelings for Lucas and the writes just didn't get that. Riely and Lucas had an actual kiss. But any one of Maya and Lucas's interactions . Have more chemistry then. That whole scene which is yeah.

Im sorry but this story line made no sense. Maya was not becoming Riley 1. When Shawn bought Maya the clothes Maya states no one ever told her that the way she dressed was "bad" indicating that she always thought that hereself 2. Maya never lost what made her Maya, she still had her drive, and passion. She just also picked up good qualities by being influenced by Riley (she started getting good grades) but that shows character development, Maya kept her sarcasm and wittiness, and also became more driven. All in all, this story line was probably a last minute decision by the show writers because more fans wanted Rucas instead of Lucaya (Indicated by the fact that Josh was forgotten about until ski lodge and then suddenly he knows Maya doesnt like Lucas which shows that they just needed someone to pair maya with) so Lucaya was prob the original ending but itgot changed so this storyline had to be introduced

Supposedly it was something like that but it just sounds like bad writing to me. The entire idea that she “became Riley” is so weird and unrealistic especially because it wasn’t an assumption the audience would have come to at all if it wasn’t directly stated. From my POV it seemed like Maya had some character growth and was going through that natural transition from child to teen to adult years where you begin to understand the importance of responsibility but that the show wrote all of that off just to throw Lucaya as a pairing under the bus doesn’t sit right with me. 😒
