For those who are wondering about the story, from the trailer I got that: Jodie is now popular for some reason. That mean girl who wanted the Swedish guy in the first movie is the only person in Jodie’s life that’s still teasing her. That Swedish guy is there and he wants Jodie back. Short milk crate man and Jodie are not together despite that kiss in the first movie. Short milk crate man has to *gasp* develop an actual identity outside of being obsessed with Jodie. Jodie is in a musical and meets yet another guy who wants her meaning she has 3 guys after her the whole movie. And there’s some message about how “the biggest monsters we face are the ones in our own head” or something. So yeah. Jodie is popular, she’s only got one mean person in her life, she’s apparently a talented actress, and she’s got 3 boyfriends. I have no idea what the conflict in this film is supposed to be.

No, I'm not from the US, so it wasn't dollars, but we did briefly touch the same subject on foreign currency. The main problem with this show was it being on Disney , so there couldn't be any *REAL* conflict or challenging situations. Boy meets world dealt with puberty, hormones, sexual attraction, bullying, alcohol abuse, abusive parents, broken homes, parents being laid off, challenges of school , failing in life, feeling lost in the world... one of the best seasons wasnt even about Corey , it was Eric being lost in the world when he was done high school and didn't have good enough grades for College right away - Girl meets world had NONE of this. There was no challenge for these kids that wasn't summed up with ham-fisted lines and terrible dialogue. Though... Danielle Fishel is still looking absolutely amazing.

One thing about girl meets world is that in every episode they expected you to have a correct answer and the problem had to be solved at the end of the episode. I’m really sick and tired of the media portraying autistic kids as being weird and obnoxious outcasts that nobody ever wants hanging out with and who can’t do anything for themselves and ate just overgrown toddlers that can’t even tie their own shoes. It’s just so ableist and it’s seriously disgusting. I mean if you took out all mentions of autism in this particular episode and then replaced all mentions of the disorder with something like diabetes and have lines like “You can’t have diabetes! You’re normal!”, how do you think people would react to *that* ? They would be pretty angry and upset and rightly so because having diabetes doesn’t mean you aren’t a normal person. Look I’m fine if some sitcom talks about autism in a very respectful way that isn’t patronizing or calling us weird and “not normal.” Treat us like the human beings with actual thoughts and emotions just like everyone else who just happens to think outside of the box. Stop trying to say we aren’t “normal” just because our brains function differently than yours.

Definitely felt like one of those "Very Special Episode" episodes, where it talks about something like a death in the family or drugs or teenage pregnancy as a way to get the topic to kids, and then they just never show that issue again or include it in any more storylines. It reminds me of when they made Bella Thorne's character in Shake it Up have dyslexia in one episode, create a whole bunch of drama, then never mention it again in the show run. Ableism is extremely hurtful and causes harm no matter who the target is. @@musiclover_kb4913that doesn’t make this episode less awful, if Smackle was the one who was actually autistic she should have been the one who talked about it to their classmates, not Farkle, it’s again that situation of a neurotypical person explaining to other NTs how it’s like to live with autism, but they still talk about it as if it’s a bad thing as if it’s something to be ashamed of, as if she would be happier if she was more like them. Even the way they portray the diagnosis is awful, they talk as if having autism or not is something that you can tell by a physical exam or something and it isn’t, they say Farkle had all the signs of being autistic but then they say he isn’t, and it’s said that Smackle was diagnosed when she was 5 and Farkle was being tested by doctors and all during his teenage years and the thing is that’s the exact opposite, it’s usually easier for autistic boys to be diagnosed at an early age because the way it’s done is usually more adapted to the signs boys show but autistic girls tend to be diagnosed in their teenage years, this episode would have worked much better if Smackle was the one who was being tested for an autism diagnosis and Farkle told her he was diagnosed with autism at age 5 but he rather not tell his friends about it until then

This show had potential, and honestly some of the episodes where really great, mostly the ones that focused on the returning Boy Meets World characters. The problem was it aired on Disney Channel. Disney should have dropped this on ABC or Freerform. The creators would have had more freedom to make the characters more realistic/grown up. Riley basically NEVER loses the mindset of a 12 year old girl throughout the entire shows run, and that kills any potential for her character to be interesting. Maya has some great moments, and the episode where her dad comes back and the one where she freaks out about Shawn marrying her mom were both great. @K_Skywalker Жыл бұрын
The big difference between the shows comes from the fact that they aired on different Networks which means the production and writing was entirely different. Boy Meets World and its 7 seasons all aired originally on ABC not Disney Channel (Disney picked up ABC in the middle of the shows run and Disney only ran reruns). This allowed the writers and producers to create a great show that was for preteens and teenagers that dealt with serious issues, as well as some light hearted stuff. Meanwhile Girl Meets World was produced by Disney. Disney has shown that when it comes to producing their own original shows, they do pretty well, however, when they’re producing and writing remakes of something else they do poorly. Girls Meets World was an okay show but it could never stand up to its predecessor. Disney didn’t really understand what made Boy Meets World special. Everything for the most part in Boy Meets world feels natural. The lessons they learned and experiences they went through felt genuine. Meanwhile in Girl Meets World almost everything is given to them and almost nothing is ever earned. For example look at the teaching styles from Mr. Feeny and Corey as teachers. Mr. Feeny would try his best to teach Cory, and Eric for different reasons. Cory was being a bad student on purpose for the sake of Shawn at times (not wanting him to feel left out) and his own developed laziness because of this. Feeny new Corey was smart if he just tried instead of wanting to fit-in. Feeny would try understanding and tough love with Eric because he knew Eric’s laziness was out of fear of not making it in the real world. He knew Eric could be great but only if Eric let go of his fear and stop making excuses for himself. Mr. Feeny was genuinely trying to help but not overstep his boundaries. Once Cory becomes a teacher, he pretty much force-feeds whatever lessons about life he can into the lesson plan for his history class. It’s gets to a point where his own students call it out. That made it seem like Disney was making fun of Mr. Feeny as if he did the same thing. This shows that the Disney producers never understood the original show. That’s why they should have just left it alone or have it Produced on FreeForm
@wardarcade7452 Жыл бұрын
Agree with you but I'm not sure it the force-feeding was all Disney's fault! Also, they openly DID make fun of and show contempt for of Mr. Feeny on this show and with no one apologizing- ever!

I also really hate how this show destroyed the relationship between Shawn and Angela. In the series finale of “Boy meets world,” it was hinted that Shawn and Angela would end. However, they could’ve found someone better for Shawn than Maya’s mother. She lacked the emotional intelligence of Angela and did not share in Shawn’s love of the arts.

I hated how they acted like Angela was just another person who abandoned Shawn and left him for no reason when in the end of BMW he literally let her go so she could spend a year with her father, whom she never got to see…even if they weren’t going to end up together, they did Angela and their relationship so dirty. I also hated that they put Shawn with Maya’s mom. It felt more like they wanted Shawn to be Maya’s dad so they shoved him into a relationship with her mom. Very cringe.

I watched Giirl meets World before I watched Boy Meets World. I knew it was cringe but they also touched upon storylines other disney shows didn't include at that time. I watched it more for Maya's storyline. But Disney destroyed what Girl Meets World could have been. It could have been a proper dramedy with mature storylines and real character arcs without a random childish comment every 1 minute. Still, for what it's worth Girl Meets World taught me a lot as well.

Would’ve been better if it was just Maya’s story. Riley could’ve been the side character, stil, get Cory and Topanga through that, but Maya is just way way better of a character… until the end of the triangle

I never really got into this show but the episode where Farkle gets tested for autism annoyed me to no end because of how ableist it came off. It was treated like a disease when that's the furthest from the truth & even the ending where Farkle's actor tried to explain it rubbed me the wrong way because the damage had already been done by having the other actors over react & treating him potentially being on the spectrum as this debilitating disease

To be fair, high schoolers make mistakes and aren't always thinking like that. When things change (especially for teens on TV) they act like it's the end of the world, because that's kinda what they do. Doesn't mean it was right, but flaws are a thing and mistakes are made. Of course not, because I have a huge nostalgia on the show

Definitely no where near BMW but I feel like I really blame the platform, as a basic premise and with a lot of the original cast who wanted to be part of it, it had a lot of potential. I remember when it got canceled there was a campaign for Netflix to pick it up, sometimes I wonder how the show would've done on another platform where they were ale to deal with more mature themes

I'm a huge Boy Meets World. So while I do find some guest stars episodes with the BMW cast okay, the ones with Eric and especially Angela kind of disappointed me the most. Girl Meets World writers took that Mr. Squirrel dream episode from BMW too seriously and actually made that storyline canon about Eric when they introduced him in the show, which I thought it was a weird and dumb way to do so. He later got better though... Now as for Shawn and Angela.... I also don't like how how GMW did Shawn and Angela's relationship dirty, Boy Meets World's famous interracial couple at that too. The show vilified Angela and made it seem like she completely dumped Shawn and wanted nothing to do with him anymore. But the writers of GMW seem to forget how Shangela actually had a mutual breakup in the original show. In the original show, Angela had to move oversees to live with her dad in the military and both Shawn and Angela realized that they can't make a long-distance relationship work. GMW also had Shawn moping about Angela for the past 15 years until he eventually becomes Maya's stepfather. Yep. They broke them up so that Shawn can end up with Maya's mom.
@milkflavored2 жыл бұрын
Whew. Thank you for this comment, so I know I can give this show a full pass. I know they officially kept Shawn and Angela broken up on the reboot, but I always assumed it had to do with the real life issues surrounding how Angela’s actress was treated by the other cast members. I wish the writers could have been decent about it

GMW gave them a shot to fix the mistake they made with Shawn and Angela by establishing that they got back together soon after the end of BMW (she was just gone for a year or so), they got happily married and had beautiful biracial kids, after everything they had gone through they deserved that, but instead they chose to make it all worse crushing the ship even more by vilifying Angela and making get married to someone else even though Shawn was her true love, just so they could match-make him with Kate. I mean if they wanted he and Kate to be together so badly then why couldn’t they just start the show with the two of them together and why couldn’t he be Maya’s biological father? I heard once that at first Maya was supposed to be Shawn and Angela’s biracial daughter but they changed the plans when they decided they wanted Sabrina Carpenter to play Maya (she was a promise) and she obviously couldn’t play a biracial character so they wrote her as Kate’s daughter instead

I agree! What was worse was they kept shoving down the viewers' throats that Riley was supposedly a sweet saint despite the fact that she was depicted as an entitled, spoiled, bossy, meddling and somewhat mean person (and retrotrashed and/or dumped on virtually all the BMW characters depicted). If the writers weren't going to actually depict their new protagonist as an actual saint, they should have had the other characters call her on her less perfect traits instead of constantly enabling and touting her alleged wonderfulness.

I actually liked this show, in an odd way; yes, it’s overdramatic and just overwhelming sometimes. They made a big deal out of everything. That’s what I liked about it. I knew it wasn’t real, but after watching that chaos, reality didn’t seem so… ridiculously intense after all, and that was a quite good realization for a teenager. It was entertaining (of course, when it wasn’t being painful) to watch and laugh at this, and, when I was not cringing, I could try to get the point of what they were meaning to say.
