I had these three friends I made in middle school who I thought were going to stay by my side forever, and would always have my back, but, soon, especially after we all graduated, I started realizing that all of them were toxic in some way, always trying to take advantage of me, and, what hurt me the most was that one of them was my first crush, he hurt me the most, I never saw it coming, 2019, two years after we graduated, was when I should have realized something was up with him, he got mad at us one day because we couldn’t hang out with him, he didn’t speak to us for WEEKS, maybe, a month later, he apologized, but, he had the screen facing away from him, I forgave him because I believe in second chances, and I missed him, in 2020, after months of not being able to see each other because of our busy schedules, and, three weeks before my birthday, he told me and my “now former” friends that our friendship meant nothing to him, and it was just a bunch of lies, months later, in November of that same year, after I recovered from losing my crush, I got rid of my other two “friends”, I couldn’t stand to have anything toxic in my life anymore, and promised myself that I would never hang on to/ignore anything toxic in my life again. Now, I am much more careful about who I make friends with, and more observant of them, too, I hope my story teaches people about how not every “friend” will be true, and to get rid of any toxic friends you have, even when it’s hard, your feelings/self-worth, and need to be appreciated, mean more than any toxic friend/crush.
