Please note: Portal 2 is a fantastic co-op game... when two people who love each other play it. I played it with a friend, and since we're both guys who were in our 20s at the time, it turned into the single most brutal PVP experience I have ever seen.

Adding on the entirety of the LEGO series are excellent coop games for people who don't play a lot of video games. Simple levels, intuitive controls and absolutely zero pressure or time constraints. They are pretty simplistic but for new gamers the LEGO games are an absolute dream and my girlfriend really enjoyed the two Harry Potter games.
