I’m now 60, was a teen in the ‘70’s. Seems like yesterday. I wish I’d been given this kind of education, it would’ve made me a lot wiser. As a 14 & 15 yr old I was so naive, gullible, & physically mature for my age making me an easy target for older teen boys. I never stopped to think that there could be evil in another high school age guy, I saw the best in everyone. I got myself in a few regrettable situations, but I realize I got off easy…could’ve been so much worse.

I've heard it several times since. The moment they understand, you get about 2 seconds while they take a deep breath then they let out the scream that sends shivers down your spine. You can expect it and know exactly when it's coming, but you can't get used to it. It pierces your very soul.

My dad was small town doctor and I could always tell when he had to tell a family that there was no hope for their child or the child was pronounced dead after an accident. He would get very quiet that night and go to bed early, skipping his TV shows. It was really hard when the child was the child of a good friend or someone he had known all his life; Later as I was able to drive him to emergencies I would take him to hospitals and sometimes the scene of the acicident since there was not an ambulance service then, If things went bad, it was a quiet ride home. Luckily it didn't happen often, but I'm 74 now and still recall when it did.

My ex had a friend who tricked her into going with a car load of teenage boys. She was probably 15 at the time. They all took turns with her and dropped her off. I think they had pot as the bait. Fast forward 20 some yrs. One of the guys who raped my ex, named Rick, decided to stab his girlfriend to death. He stabbed her a few times, then left. He later decided to return and make sure she was dead. Fortunately for the girl the cops were at her place and caught him trying to sneak back in. He is still in prison. Who can say, if , when he was young, and Rick hadn't chose to consider a female unworthy of his respect, that he wouldn't have tried to murder his girlfriend later on? My ex and his girlfriend never deserved to be treated that way. What is wrong is wrong, no matter how we view it.

About 40 years ago my sisters car broke down in the beach town of Half Moon Bay CA. Don't remember all the Details but she.was brutally raped by of all people the tow truck driver! Unfortunately, he would not be in jail without your sister going through a painful too long process with the judiciary system or whatever it is called. I wasn't raped (at least not by strangers, because then today even boyfriends and husbands are sued), but I have been assaulted several times by men in different occasions. Thankfully I was always able to defend myself and escape. Though some things were so unexpected I could not avoid them. Every time I was adviced to sue them. I had name and number and address of most of these men... but I didn't. I rely on God for Justice. I don't care about revenge. I don't wanna be the judge. And I don't trust the judiciary system. And going through all that is needed just in order to MAYBE see these people behind bars for a little while... it's not worth it. Life has its own Justice. It is intrinsic in the order of things whether we understand it or not. I think that's called Faith. 🌹I very much hope your sister has found peace.💜

Pregnant girls weren't allowed at our schools in many schools till the late 70s into the 80s. When I left schools, which I often did because of moving so much, girls would spread rumors, I left cause pregnant. For me this wasn't true, but it was how things were back then. Even teachers weren't to be pregnant, without often being pushed out of the jobs. They passed a law in the late 70s that prohibited discrimination based on pregnancy status.

I, too, once knew a Rob, howbeit some fifty years ago when we were both aged in our late teens and early twenties. At the age of eighteen, 'Rob' found that girls of his own age wanted nothing to do with him and he once showed up at a social event with a thirteen year old girl. One year later, age 19, he showed up at another event with a fifteen year old. There was also a sixteen year old in the community where we all lived who was sure that she could understand him. In 1961 people understood that a girl in Mary's predicament was indeed 'in trouble' and that the juvenile authorities needed to be involved. It is 2023 as I write this and regardless of whatever was wrong with the way things were in 1961, there were many areas back then where people were spot on the money.

I enjoyed my romances as a teenager, most of it very good and innocent, but I think it would have been a lot healthier mentally to stay away from sex and making out so much till I was older and more mature. And then, you'd get to go to High School back on those days, and we're shown films like "Danger: SYPHILIS!" or what-not, or my favorite, a film featuring Mr. Scary Government Owl Eyes Person, and he'd begin with a twenty minute dialog about nuclear weapons and conclude by looking straight at the camera and shrieking, "Warning! Warning! THIS US NOT A DRILL!!THIS IS A NUCLEAR EMERGENCY!" at the top of his lungs, or some such thing, which only scared the hell out of you even more. Russia had very few ICBMs in 1961. It'd a been a bomber attack. If the bomb detonation was far enough away you could a saved yourself with just a few inches of concrete. It would deflect the gamma rays and heat flash, both of which only last a few seconds. The lingering radiation doesn't arrive for 10-20 minutes, in the form of fallout. It is survivable if you know what to do. They weren't misleading you. Your elders were looking out for you

In the early 70's, my 15 year old sister was date raped by a guy she met walking home from school. My mother in particular was furious at her, blamed her for the whole thing, told her she "couldn't be trusted" and forbid her to date again until she was 17. My mother's main concern seemed to be that because my sister wasn't a virgin anymore, "no decent man will marry you". Well it turned out that a very decent man married her and they have been together for years. My mother was cruel and ridiculous, she wouldn't even let my sister press charges because of the "shame".

My daughters only babysat for people we knew. My oldest to this day, locks doors and windows all the time. As far as boyfriends goes, I had to meet them 1st and interrogate all info about them. Each bf was always left with this advice. Anything happens to my daughter, you will be an odd smell in the basement. Things have a way of working out.
