Girls Charging Pipeline // Billabong Pro Pipeline behind the scenes with Lakey Peterson #39

Hey Guys,
The first WSL event of the year kicked off in Hawaii at the Banzai Pipeline. The conditions did not disappoint with countless days of perfect/scary conditions. This was the first time ever that the WSL woman's event was held at this location. All the girls had a 'solid dig' which was awesome to see and great to push the current level of woman's surfing to the next level.

❤ yes! such a great video of so much goodness :) proud of you :) your surfing was excellent, especially the last wave of the first sequence, and that middle competition sequence, with the claims, which were rightfully done and well deserved. Your drops and early barrel lines drawn were perfect. seriously, perfect. great position, great stylish stance, and great fast lines drawn to get whatever speed needed to drive through them. also, im not an expert judge, but those series of waves where you pulled in and made it out through openings in the curtain seem low scored, did they not? i mean, what, ones for great great style, and guts to pull in, and make it out through closing sections? in any case, im glad you got the 5 and ended well in that heat. it was also very heartwarming and sweet to see the guys there to greet and congratulate you at the beach. it actually almost started to make my eyes well a little (before i had to resort to hardened nerves of steel) to think of that loving support and encouragement :) my only issue with the entire video is, why is Mike P doing my waxing and board caddy / caretaker job? PS- and a special lil shout out to powerhouse Caroline, who always makes me happy to see in your videos, (and in whatever others as well, but its sweet that she is in so many of your videos :) ok, tide is high and backwashing here because im about 3 hours late from dawn patrol peak tide (but at least i was doing physio at the gym and not snoozing ;), but i am not deterred. im outtie :)

❤ ok, i'm just going to say it. it is my personal opinion that mike's wax jobs were probably the reason you fell off the tour this year, and if he wasn't waxing your boards at the last series of comps leading to it, then it was probably a delayed effect, sort if like post traumatic surfboard wax stress syndrome, from what transpired here in this video that effected heats, scores, and whatever else :) i mean, did you see him? no small quadrant sections at a time 10 stroke base coat, and small section rotational top coats, as instructed in the Lakey Peterson surfboard wax instructional video (like, why bother teaching people if they don't do it correctly?) but rather he was all over the place, just rubbing wax unevenly all over the board, willy nilly style. And then, im seeing you have to wax your boards yourself because, duh, they were not waxed correctly :) come on, how you suppose to concentrate of the wave conditions and ripping when the surfboard wax job is botched and you are distracted on trying to make it right before paddling out? :) and that is to say nothing of him standing there chit chatting, probably about what he used to do out there, 30 years ago, while you are frantically trying to wax your board before paddling out, being taken completely out of the zen zone you probably worked hard to get into before discovering that your board is a total wax mess :) i feel for you on this, and hopefully this little wsl tour break is allowing for some relaxing, rejuvenating, motivating, inspiring, joyous, liberated, independent, self paced, pressure reduced focus on surfing, some personal life aspects less enjoyed during competitive travels, and some recovery (if not counseling and therapy), to help recover from that wax situation, which, i am happy for you that you are hopefully saved from :)

It's because she's surfing pipeline. If you fall down that wave you land on the reef. Hit your head? You get Knocked out and drown. One of the most dangerous waves there is.
