I feel it gives enough room for newbies to play around with, but for specifics you got to go out of your way to get, I respect the devs for not having you on a leash, just to info dump with years of lore.

I wish they just gave more explanation or lore clarification for some aspects in the story in GFL 2. It seems I'm missing so many details because I didn't play GFL 1 so I'm not connecting with the story as much and am confused when certain keywords like you mentioned show up during scenes - as if I'm expected to know them. I had to look up these terms, which I feel like I shouldn't have to do, so I think it's just a case of poor introduction writing. I feel like a Glossary would do wonders for this game. The Elmo Cloud doesn't do much for me

I don't see it as such, but more as a welcome repository that is there as a starting point to go after earlier ones. Let's face it, after you clear chap 6 and push other content to a wall that every day after becomes an easy chore of doing dailies that takes mere minutes, so it's there for one to pick up. Oh sorry, I forgot, most gacha players don't like reading.

Sequals, let alone direct sequals for Gacha is definitely a rarity. And i agree, GFL2 kind of expects you to have played not just GFL1, but also Project Neural cloud as well. At this point, after the first or 2 months of global launching, I suspect a lot of players will just leave cause the game isn't gonna make it any easier for new players coming in. If you aren't already a fan of Mica lore, you will find a hard time getting into GFL2. There is soo much references to GFL1 and PNC that Mica just expects it's playerbase to have already known and played. For me, I already play both games. Played GFL1 since launch. But its hard to reccomend to people without saying "read the book". Its the same with me trying to reccomend One Piece to new anime watchers.

You bring up a valid point about the lore depth in GFL2! It can be challenging for newcomers to jump in without prior knowledge. Hopefully, the game developers will consider ways to make it more accessible for all players.
@ggease6030

Mica definitely should have made GFL 2’s story a lot more approachable to new players considered this game is entering a more mainstream space unlike its niche predecessor, yet like you said: it expects the players to know about certain things when it is brought up. Lots of key terms are shoved into me which I have no clue about, and have to search up on the wiki - which I shouldn’t even have to do. I thought the Elmo Cloud would be the glossary to help me understand, but it did not.

the game is actually a prequel of their single player game operation bakery girl or reverse collapse in the remake version.

As a GFL player, I'd recommend getting a drink and then reading the lore, it's incredibly extensive and obviously overwhelming for the casual reader. During the first chapers of GFL2, I really liked the subtle references to the past, the dialogue doesn't show it, but the stuttering and moments of silence let you remember the ptsd that was previous operations, especially when you remember your squads go against hordes of ELIDS or other stuff, the lost comrades and how you're even alive.
@lezanoloserio7944

Heres the thing about the lore in this game (this includes the first game imo) Sure it can be overloading but you have to look for it. The plot doesn't just stop so people can yap about something that can be easily understood and if it does explain something its brief and honestly requires explanation. The writers clearly respect the players to have the ability to learn things based on the context of the situation (for example they refer to the characters as dolls and later they show that Groza is an android therefore dolls = androids, they don't need to explain in the story what a doll when they can just show it). The game also encourages the players do a bit of reading themselves either from the in game lore sources such as the Elmo and while this may sound like a chore it's mainly a choice for the player. This in turn shows that they don't have to cuddle the players like little children having to over explain everything and wasting time when you are going through the story. In short they give enough context about the world to get the players in the know and interested about it and offer a way for them to know more without having to shove it in the story. But this in turn can risk having the player confused as hell, but in my opinion GFL2 has a nice balance to it. Although they should add a glossary about the common topics in game such as explaining what a Doll is and what makes a T-Doll different because even in the first game they don't have such thing but like I said if the player dont blitz through the story and try to consume things in a well paced manner they can understand what the hell is going on.

im not sure about lore being overwhelming in this game. I never played GLF1 so the main story alone at least helps in giving a few hints as to what happened to this world, and how it went in the first game. For those people who want to skip lore, the game has the option to do so. mainstory cutscenes can be skipped. a few backstories are written out that people can just skip reading. Loredump? sure but it isn't an issue if you aren't interested in the lore. Unlike other games that forces you to know the lore (no skip button, full of jargons in conversations, etc) 1:08 "For newer players It could feel like you're just being hit by a wall of text after wall of text" -->this needs to be clarified into "For newer players who are interested in the lore". People who aren't interested wouldn't bother reading that wall of text shown at that timestamp. The main story alone already gives a few hints on what is happening.
@KazuKisekiLIVE
@KazuKisekiLIVE 24 күн бұрын
True, you make a good point. If you don't like lore, just treat it like a buffet-skip the text and go straight for the main dish! Who needs a side of lore when you're just here for the action, right?

I played GFL 1 so I expected how they showcase the lore, but I do feel they should have added some kind of "Codex" section somewhere (maybe in the Elmo server room) that goes through common terms that will keep appearing, and maybe some extra lore about what happened in-between the first and second games. Maybe even put in some brief summaries of events from GFL 1 so returning players can get a quick refresher, and new players will have some background knowledge (Then maybe they'll understand why GFL 1 players keep talking about PTSD)
@KazuKisekiLIVE
@KazuKisekiLIVE 26 күн бұрын
That would be some great adjustments to the game! There is a section with a bunch of lore related things, but it can be a little difficult without context whether it's for GFL1, GLF2, or for their Neural Cloud series. I think what you're suggesting would be amazing !

This is interesting. There are people I've chatted with who felt that the game does a good job at not going too much into depth about the previous game's lore. There are certainly bits of it present from my own observation and one of our encounters with a character from the first game is certainly an outlier here but they were able to connect dots and use context clues well enough. Edit: Forgot to say, Good vid! Looking forward to more of your thoughts on this game.

I didn't play GFL, but I'm really enjoying the lore of GFL2, it makes the world feel lived in. The last series to really do that for me was W1/W2/W3. For those games I played them in order, so playing GFL2 out of order is rather interesting with its complex lore. Somehow the lore doesn't hit like Wuwa lore where I sometimes have to stop and figure out what everyone is talking about. Even when you don't know this the story makes sense or you can intuit what is happening.

Yea as a new player, I found the story presentation and the amount of lore shoved into my face overwhelming. I thought I am quite a story type of player considering how with Nikke, I really enjoy it when they release story related patch. While playing through some of the chapters in GFL2, sometimes I'm really tempted to press the skip button, but I know if I do that, it's just gonna make me lose more interest. Probably gonna become invested into the story more as I play more, but yeah, that's my current situation.

2017 Girls Frontline 1 - you need read this or watch that to learn how the system work and to grind efficiently for end game ranking ( 2024 Girls Frontline 2 - you need read big ass lore document or read the whole GFL1 story content which is longer than all LOTR books to look at highly detail rendered trademarked nylon stockings. All I wanted alternative Kancolle game back in 2017 to collect cute jpeg gun waifus but now im this rabbit hole of ptsd about a story of self-destructive nature and greed of humans that makes it seems that the machines more human than humans. also btw joke aside it probably best time to get to catch up since CN servers dropped the Final Story event just this month and EN is basically 3 story events behind and based on it current pace it will probably drop either may-june 2025(then again i might be wrong lol)

in my opinion, gfl 2 story is still very surface level and does not need any lore information from gfl 1 to explain most of the main event except returning characters like Kalina, Team 404 (Lena & Leva), G&K members (Helian & Dandelion). the T-Dolls side stories are supplementary, either skip it or keep in mind these are just what happened to the dolls after they leave G&K. But if you find the world building interesting, i highly suggest reading the story through Girls' Frontline Cutscene Interpreter website, it is so good, i would say AOT or Nier:Automata level world building, and yes it is very dark and depressing at times.

Manga and anime (which is the manga adaptation) cover only a small part of the game's story, and arguably the worst part. And it's also practically its own continuity. You would need to read story summaries or use a cutscene interpreter to cover the meat of the story and what had lead to skk to leave G&K.
@treebush
@treebush 27 күн бұрын
trust me there is no overloading, the side stories are meant to be taken at your own pace and even vets dont know all the lingo in GFL2 as theres new stuff there. You arent meant to understand stuff sometimes until later on. GFL2 is going very slow for new players. GFL1 a normal chapter of just reading is 2-4hrs with side chapers 30min to hr with major event chapters being 6-14 hrs long and thats ONLY THE READING not including additional dialogue that happens during gameplay and epic moments that happen during gameplay. Each event release was basically a game expansion jrpg with the regular chapters being small standalones. Actaully a better example is they were releasing a new Visual Novel each chapter basically

Kinda disagree. Knowing stuff from GF1 obviously helps to make more sense of lot of stuff... but most of these stuff are not actually relevant, and those that are relevant weren't present in GF1. Girard Group, B.R.I.E.F, URNC didn't exist in GF1 (it was building toward birth of URNC, but it wasn't thing yet), Sangvis Ferry and Griffin are mentioned but they are basically gone now and all relevance they get, is that someone using their weapons now. As far as I am concerned, studying lore is recommended but ultimately optional. Things that are relevant get covered by the story itself.
