Trends I see: Tae vs Sica in Lead and Total Seo and Fany Yuri wins in Korean albums while Woo wins in Japanese albums Hyo and Yoona aren't leaving that final spots Sunny always mid

I wish SM had nurtured all the member’s vocals. Sooyoung and Yuri especially all have lead vocal potential but were relegated to the corner. Hyoyeon has a gorgeous voice when given the opportunity to actually sing and not just shout or talk quickly

SM probably felt they already had enough vocalist on the team. I do wonder how much time dance line had in the studio esp during the Japan albums.

SM really takes pride in their vocalists. The best vocalists and the best fit for SM sound will be given a lot of lines, center time, and screentime

@@ispeakcockney that’s their approach, but I don’t think it’s necessary. Everyone knows SM vocalists are incredible. Why not shine a light on other skills too, instead of just highlighting that one skill?

SNSD formula, Taeyeon 1st place in normal line distribution while Jeesica 1st place in harmony chorus and backing vocals..taeyeon got the hardest part in every song while jessica voice can be found everywhere in most chorus..these 2 main vocalist have their vital role in recording studio

Jessica usually hits higher notes tho? From ITNW, Kissing You, The Boys, IGAB and in MR MR they both had it at E5. Taeyeon is more of a belter but Jessica is more of a note hitter and in a higher pitch which actually makes her part difficult. The iconic line in The Boys is just F5 but she executed it nasally which makes it harder to hit for most people since ppl tend to imitate the way a part is being sung in a song.

⁠⁠@@babae6598no. The only note she hit higher than Taeyon in their title track is ITNW and The boys and IGAB. The did the same note in Kissing You and Taeyeon did the highest note in Mr Mr when she did her “Ooh” adlibs at the end. And Jessica never execute her high notes in The Boys live unlike she did in ITNW. And Taeyeon has hit higher notes than Jessica in SNSD song like XYZ where she did a G5.

In my POV, I do agree with your statement. Asking who is/are the main vocalist/s of SNSD is quite a vague question. If you were to ask who is SNSD’s best vocalist, it is without a doubt Taeyeon. Technique, vocal range, and versatility wise, she is the best! However, it was Jessica’s voice that perfectly carried the SNSD blueprint sound. It was as if that SNSD’s songs were centered around her voice or her voice just naturally fits SNSD’s songs. When she left, it was hard for the vocalists to replicate her sound, thus hard to replicate the blueprint SNSD sound. Good thing that when Jessica left, they were starting to transition to a more mature, more womanly sound. The Lion Heart album sounded like supposed-to-be OT9 songs. The Holiday Night album was pretty much centered around TaeTiSunSeo. They only realized during the Forever 1 that instead of centering around one member who will do all or most background vocals, they should de-centralize it and utilize all members as much as possible. I’m just really glad they were able to utilize HyoYoon’s lower ranges. SNSD’s music has been through a lot but I’m really proud and impressed because of their versatility.

@@jlsrflchlmao. Jessica isnt the one carrying SNSD sounds blueprint. It was Taeyeon. Her voice is literally the foundation of SNSD song and sounds. Take her away, they wouldn’t even make it even if Jessica is still there. It’s basically non existent.

@@AoDk673 well, try listening to their first album ‘til maybe around the boys era (or before tts). SNSD’s earlier signature sound is girly, and that Jessica’s voice is the perfect fit for that. That’s why I said she’s the blueprint. When TTS debuted and when IGAB era started (although still girly-sounding), they’re trying to transition to a more mature, womanly sound (Mr. Mr. and Lion Heart era). That’s when Taeyeon was used more prominently (if not always). Also, SNSD’s sound evolves with their age. Numerous members said that they felt awkward singing about lollipops during their mid to late twenties. No shade to anyone whatsoever but why did most fans think that Jessica’s voice was the blueprint of SNSD even though Taeyeon is the best vocalist? Because Jessica has a special and unique timbre that people will call the “GG sound” when they hear it. My point is that when GG was at the peak of their career and when OT9 is still with us, Jess is indeed the blueprint (including back vocals and choruses) but when TTS debuted and they started to become more mature, they had to shift to other vocalists to experiment with various sounds. I agree that if Taeyeon will be removed, the other 8 (including Jess) will have a hard time covering or replicating her parts but trust me, they can still try to replicate the GG sound with Jess and Seo’s voices, heck even Sun’s voice is also a vital part of the GG sound (not undermining Taeyeon’s tho, she’s also vital). I’m a Taeyeon fan btw, and I tweeted before that SONE’s should focus on the fact that we should be thankful we have Taeyeon as the main vocal of GG instead of focusing on what we lost. I’m just stating something that not probably only me is thinking for the longest time. Also, try to consolidate all of the chorus leads from debut until Divine and see who led more choruses. 🫣

This is pretty much SNSD's vocal ranking... 1. Main Vocal - Taeyeon, Jessica 2. Lead Vocal - Seohyun, Tiffany, Sunny 3. Sub Vocal 1 - Yuri, Sooyoung 4. Sub Vocal 2 - Hyoyeon, Yoona

@Oliver-uz1fs I rewatched the video, and I think you're right. It's TaeJeTiSun not Seo. Sun has a small part in the final "all" chrous but she is there not Seo.
