This Scene looks like it was Yamato's last Operational Sortie during the Okinawa campaign as part of Operation Ten-go or "Heaven Number One", which was a Kamikaze mission of her own aimed to threaten the Landings at Okinawa or go down trying. Task Force 58 had 8 Aircraft Carriers in the Area supporting the Landings on April 7th, 1945 when they had sunk Yamato. The Carriers involved were the Essex-class Aircraft Carriers USS Essex (CV-9), USS Hornet (CV-12), USS Bunker Hill (CV-17), USS Hancock (CV-19, Ticonderoga/Long-Hulled Subclass), and USS Bennington (CV-20) with 100 Aircraft Each and the Independence-class Light Aircraft Carriers USS Belleau Wood (CVL-24), USS Bataan (CVL-29) and San Jacinto (CVL-30) with 33 Aircraft Each. And as the meme goes..... * "NOW THAT'S A LOT OF DAMAGE!!!" *

Despite the near 600 aircraft attacking the IJN Yamato during Ten-go, it still took nearly 4 hours to fully sink the ship, with it taking a confirmed 11 torpedo hits (the same torpedos that can crack a cruiser in half) and 8 bombs sitting in the 250-500 lb range. That amount of firepower can sink a respectable fleet, and speaks to the sheer resilience of Yamato. Her sister ship, Musashi, was somehow even more badass, taking on the Essex-class USS Intrepid (CV-11), USS Essex (CV-9), USS Franklin (CV-13) and USS Lexington (CV-16), the Independence-class Light Carrier Cabot (CVL-28) and the Big E, The Yorktown-class Enterprise (CV-6). Musashi was also left alone from it's escort, and held out for 9 hours. In this time it was hit by 19 torpedoes, and 17 bombs of varying sizes. 4 bombs were from the Enterprise's Helldivers, and were clocked in as 1,000 lb bombs. These ships were straight-up video game final bosses given form.

I love how Ruby calls the Dauntless dive bombers "Iron Dragons" and there bombs "Metal Eggs". Now if only she knew the reason why this attack was so brutal.....though I will say.....it is a shame we had to sink the Akagi. She was a beautiful ship, dare I say a work of art in motion.

The dauntless was retired by 1945, so these assortment of aircraft are SB2C Helldivers, TBM/TBF Avengers and f6f hellcats. There may have been F4U corsairs, but only few carriers used them.

YO @lostonessoul5154#did you forget that fact it and it's sister carrier's brought the planes that Attacked us in Hawaii.#there planes killed nearly 3.000 Americans in a Attack that was not only a surprise but was unjustified because the governments declaration or war came after that Attack started that is not short of a war crime and were we supposed too just not do nothing about it sure it was a beautiful ship but that doesn't excuse it from what happened on December 1 1941 so I say it needed too go bye bye.

All I said was it was a shame we had to sink it due to the peace we have now. During ww2 I understand full well it needed to go because it was a threat., but that was then, and this is now. OK? OK.

Battleship Yamato was the biggest warship in the world. With a caliber of 18 inches, nothing could stop it. Other than the American's, they formed an air raid on Yamato. Aircraft carriers had been dispatched to the location of Yamato's fleet, and had done bombings, and torpedo's. Yamato suffered around 5-10 bombings, and 11 torpedo's. The American's had build the Iowa class battleships. Having 3 ships. Iowa, Montana, and the Missouri. These 3 iconic machines would be in museums in the United States.
