Technically, we shouldn't even be thanking the french at all, sense they only really contributed to Yorktown. The main thing that REALLY heald down the brits was an anti-British coalition that included Spain and a few others.

The reason kettles were implemented was due to the fact that they would be able to remain in the tank during tea time instead of being outside the tank where they would be screwed if the Germans decided to attack. So we do have our priorities straight

The truth is that the French got overwhelmed by the Blitzkrieg from the Germans and did not have the manpower to fight back a growing German army filled with tanks, infantry and aircraft. They surrendered because of a growing force and for saving the life's of civilians in the villages and cities. It might have been a fool move, but it saved life that otherwise would have been unnecessary killed if the French government had given the order "Stand and Fight". The Germans in that time was recon to be unstoppable. What will you do in that situation: fight until death or live and fight another day?

Anders Mostue Well look at the Russian they fought the Blitzkrieg and brought it to a halt even at the cost of millions and don't forget that most of those villages were exterminated by the SS. What would you do? Surrender and hope an enemy like the Nazis don't kill you? or fight till the death to save your country?

john bedsoneone When the cost is millions, I would have fought until death, but then again we are talking about what the French did during the war. They surprisingly didn't suffer as much as the eastern front. They also where fighting to get the Germans, but thanks to the Germans attacks and their superior weapons, they suffered defeat. The Soviet in other hand, where much larger and they could have a dried out war to stop the Germans from advancing further along then Stalingrad. Don't forget the German already had Moscow before they advanced further along. The soviet didn't have anything else to lose other than their life and destroyed every villages they came across, just to make sure the Germans always had to sleep in cover of the stars. The Germans where not interested in destroying villages, cities or other things. The reason is they want to use it to themselves for cover and for tactical advantage. While the SS where the one that exterminated hole villages, the more common German army where not interested in any of their blood baths and took a lot of soviets prisoners. Most of them in fact joined the German army after a while because of Stalin.
