My great grandma actually worked at a pencil factory with Elizabeth Short ( The Black Daliah) and knew her. I was only a little girl when we lost my Big Mama, but I remember hearing a conversation she had with my mother about her. When I was older, I asked my mom to tell me more about it. My Big Mama ran away from an abusive marriage to California and had a couple of sailor boyfriends ( which parallels me going to California when I was in my 20's and having musician boyfriends!). Apparently, she and Elizabeth were friends and sometimes went out together. After Elizabeth was killed, my Big Mama decided to come back home to Georgia. It struck me that it could've happened to my Big Mama and I'm so grateful that it didn't.

The tunnels in Portland were originally created to connect downtown to the port so business could move their shipments into their stores without blocking up the very narrow (at the time) streets. The streets still are narrow 😅 but then they became known for the trafficking. One of my favorite bars is actually part of the tunnels. And it's pretty cool that a lot of the business downtown still use the tunnels but for things like... trash. Pioneer squares trash comes up from the underground on trash pickup day and its crazy to see them using those elevators

I am so intrigued by the phantom wing of Alexandria hotel ! I did some googling, it's so fascinating! From what I gather, they have converged into luxury condos now.. and unfortunately, not much was left in the rooms, aside from some of the bathroom fixtures and what not. Would have been so cool to see a prestine, untouched full setup! The house I live in now is 100 years old, only partially updated in the 70s aside from some electrical on the bottom floor. Love the history of everything! So cool

Holly commenting about how someone perceived her as being miserable, Is on brand with her own account of her experience so I'm unclear as to why she was upset that someone "saw" how she truly felt.
@rafaelyaguaro28426 ай бұрын
It probably have to do with the timing of when that happened, remember the make an emphasis on how the mansion worked has a cult like environment, so it tracks that, when she read that, specially that Hef read it first, she would be upset, because one, she didn't want Hef to think that, and second she may be have truly been upset even if she was feeling like that at that point but hasn't realize it yet
@VelvetVB6 ай бұрын
Lots of people dealing with depression, situational stress, etc... try to mask their true feelings. Also, as women, even at the time of GND women were supposed to "smile" and be pretty, I would imagine even moreso in her environment so it was probably personally offensive/upsetting in multiple ways.

Holly, I think some spiritual connections and guides are you leading you to these places. I believe you are super compassionate and that a few of these “spirits” whatever you’d like to call them, are connecting with you, as you them. Thous them leading you to maybe see things first hand, not in a sad way, but in a beautiful way. Such glorious delicacy, just brimming with how briefly nature lets beauty remain beautiful. The cases telegraph their own decay. A memento mori. The bodies decay but the beauty of the person is still there.

My hometown has underground tunnels that were used by Al Capone. During the prohibition. Now it has a trolley and tunnels and touristy stuff based around Al Capone 😂 People can go explore the tunnels and see actors dressed in the eras attire. It was also a question on jeopardy about Moosejavians 😂 There is a giant Moose 🫎 named Mac the Moose. And it’s a small city but yeah this a random comment 😂 when I was teenager they shot the movie “Just friends” partially in Moose Jaw, that is where all the Capone stuff is in Moose 🫎 Jaw, Canada 🇨🇦 But yeah the tunnels in Moose Jaw are a tourist attraction now. 💜 Love the Pod Cast 😊 💕

I honestly never rewatched this episode on GND because I thought it wasn't that good HOWEVER Holly and Bridget going over the facts makes me excited to rewatch it. I don't know why they were not producers on the original series because they pick out the most interesting/funny/crazy parts and go into detail about them. As popular as the original show was, I think it would have been even more popular with their takes.

In my city in the more historical homes a lot of them are connected underground because of the Chinese Exclusion Act. A lot of Chinese workers would use these tunnels while being smuggled in from Juarez. The main entrance is called “The Turtle House” because it had a brick turtle sculpture on it which apparently identifies a safe haven in Chinese culture. lol at least that is what is assumed they were used for.

A developer called Nick Hadim, bought the "ghost wing" at the Alexandria hotel back in 2012 I think. And planned to turn it into apartments. He said he climbed in a window and everything was still just sitting there, old typewriters, hats, etc. They last applied for permits in 2018 but they still haven't started on the renovations yet. But since then there's been more deaths, people jumping off the building or falling etc. They definitely say it's haunted. You should go back and do a ghost hunt there. It sounds so interesting. 👻👻💚💚
