I can not expect the joy in my heart seeing an FIP survivor. I lost my 9 month old Maggie to it in 2005 and there is not a cat disease on earth, I have wanted more to see fought and conquered. All the purrs and cuddles in the world to this sweet boy.

I lost my 5 year old boy to FIP last September. It broke my heart. It's an awful disease. My baby boy ended up with seizures that couldn't be controlled and I had to let him go. I had him from 3 days old, a tiny bean with his siblings and momma who I was fostering. I hate this disease, it can creep up so quickly. I'm so sorry for your loss too... it's hard, isn't it? xxx

up until very very very recently, FIP was essentially a death sentence for cats. i believe it was actually a research group in canada that have been making incredible progress with a new, less-invasive treatment method that's also effective and have been helping to save feline lives ❤

@KaivalaJenva My baby was diagnosed early. He survived just over a year with it. He had the wet version and the vet kept his abdomen drained as much as he could. He was a happy snuggling loving cat to the last day. I even have a photo of him from the day before he passed with donut filling on his nose. I would have done anything for him. Even go into debt. I prayed and prayed that he would go peacefully. He passed in my arms on the way to the vet to have him euthanized. I was so thankful for that. The only reason I had decided to say goodbye was because he was having to be drained more and more.

FIP -- feline infectious perontinitis -- has been fatal mostly (if not entirely) in the past. Treatment is fairly new and good outcomes have happened as the treatment protocol becomes more widely avaiable. It was commonly thought of as a death sentence, I understand. One cat successfully treated for it needed 90 days but got thru the protocol and survived.

heartwarming video, my british short hair got diagnosed with it last year and the medication was not legal to give out for the vet where I live. I felt so lost and failed by the system but I got in contact with good folks who made it possible for me to get the medication and administered it myself. Today he is healthy and happy and its like nothing ever happened. If your cat is diagnosed with FIP and your vet says the medication is not legal, look for groups for your area on social media, its more common than most people think

As I read on the website for vets, FIP virus can remain in the room for few weeks. To avoid spreading the virus, it is recommended to not take another cat to the same place in 3 months. I think, it could be important information for you, Vanessa. Maybe you can check with your vet, if this cat could potentially spread the infection despite it has been successfully cured.

Poor Freddy! He has gone through a lot!!! On another note, since I have never had a cat, is it just me, but most of the cats don't want a tube when they first come out of the carrier because for them the questions, "Where am I? What is going to happen?' outweigh food at the moment? Do cats only eat when they are at ease? Just wondering... Having watched these videos for a while, I am coming to the conclusion that if I were an animal, I would be a cat, not a dog, and my husband would be the dog, "FOOD! They brought me here to eat! Great!"

Oh yeah. Cats need all the planets to align and the sun to be at the right place in the sky and the wind to be coming from the right direction and the right speed, and it has to be the perfect amount of food in the bowl, and the bowl can't be an inch outta its spot 😂🤦🏻♀️

About a year ago they set up official treatments and allowed vets general access and prescription authorization.

In my country we lost about 30%-40% of our stray population from FIP. 2 years ago a pandemic started in stray colonies and so many died until an approved treatment was able to be provided. We still have many cases but it's not the amount we had 2 years ago. So many cats passed away alone. Thank God now we have two types of treatment according to the type of FIP and we are able to save most them.
