I'm a bit put off that the replacement part costs as much as I paid for my machine in the first place (about $30) ... but when you gave your little pep talk about fixing instead of replacing, I was reminded that, oh yeah, that's my philosophy too! So I guess it's worth it

Thanks so much for your video! I actually bought the sentro 22, 40 and 48, only really had problems with the 22 pin... after watching your video I dismantled, cleaned and lubricated it. While doing this I noticed that the crank/knob (turning wheel) whatever you want to call it, is a bit unsteady as it seems there is too much space for it to move forward and backwards while cranking. Soooooo, I put a hair elastic on the right inside of the crank before closing it up again, lining up the gears, I thought it might steady it a bit. Would you believe it worked??? It cranks soooo smooth now, even less noise, no sliding or grinding at all! When you mentioned that you saw no damage to the gears it got me thinking that it must be moving somehow. I then tried this technique on a nameless knitting machine my daughter got as a present. Also a 22 pin. It was even worse than the sentro. I did the exact same, dismantled, cleaned, lubricated, and added thinner elastic to the right and left of the inside of the crank (the shaft if you will). Re-assembled and that cheap little machine is running just as smooth now, no problem at all. I definitely won't mind doing this every few months as maintenance, and it won't cost you an arm or leg. I use all my Sentros for business, and I have no hassles at all. I know they are at a cheaper price and the quality is questioned a lot, but I believe with care and maintenance it can give you the results you want for a long time!!

My experience with the sentros is mostly that the tolerances could be better, and they need routine lubrication. The plastic they use once it starts to wear gains a high friction coefficient. This means if you go slow, it will start to bind and pop if the lubrication is not good, but if you get it moving faster you may notice it binds less. Replace the parts and try rubik's cube lube. Im trying various weights from cube4you with decent results.

got a brand new 22 pin and only used it once and it is skipping really bad like you showed yours did. I took it apart and used a flat head screw driver to remove the hard handle one. It actually is only screwed into the little nut so if you keep turning a lot your screwdriver is wrong. The flat head took me a few turns and the nut fell out of the gear easily.

What was the black circular piece for?
@GrumpyHeadDesigns Жыл бұрын
The black piece is a shim to place inside. Some need it and some don't but I recommend all to put it in place.

TCG what was the black ring for that you did not use? Just off the top of me head might it have been a shim ring you should have installed to make the machine tighter. Another though is that the taper gear vis the crank handle had slack in it. Since I can not ost you a diagram here I have to get creative on the keyboard. Tapper gear =

Thanks Sean! I ended up getting another set and installing the shim and it totally helped. The shim that was originally sent was broken so I didn't even show how to install it but I did end up doing another video showing the difference with it in. Thanks for taking the time to help!

I will try this because it's true the gear should be shifted forward so it can grab all the teeth. Will tell my husband, thank you very much. Would not spend almost $20 on the repair if a new one costs almost the same.

So what is your verdict, does this actually help in your machine, would love to know before I order it thanks Lorraine ,
@thecraftygrrl9 ай бұрын
I would say it does help a little, but overall I found that these cheaper versions are not the best tool for someone who is going to be using it on a regular basis. I've really switched to using Addi since it works so much better with the yarns I love and it is just better quality.

@@thecraftygrrl I think it prevents slipping when the white teeth on the big ring are worn down
@cilou70 Жыл бұрын
The black shim insure adds a bit of thickness to the white ring that goes on top of the wider cog so it is securly held in place and is always in friction with the little cog of the handle. The upgarde is the same cost as the machine so I decided to fix it myself with some card board ring that I cut to size. And it works really well. In time I might have to replace the card board from time to time. Cleaning the machine evry month, if using the machine often, also helps.
