A route-finding trip to the western Slip Rock.
Winter 2024 #7a.
Shots list : Two maps showing the line of passage -The Slip rock and the Pyramids - Wall of scrub at the very bottom - Passing the lowest bluffs - Enormous boulders up higher - Gaps between the Tors are passed through - The boulders next to the Pyramids are absolutely enormous - The striking outcrop next to the second pyramid (1000m) - Balancing rock - Tall monolith on the left - A type of Banksia, I expect - Descent to Lower Slabs - Beginning of lower slabs - Four shots of the slab ascent - Boulder caves - More slab ascent - Looking back to the Second Pyramid with access point visible - Three shots of the highest area reached (1050m) - Drone take off shot.
Drone shots : The lower route - The striking outcrop - The Pyramids - Slabs just traversed - The Slip Rock.
The Slip Rock is visible from the first Pyramid as the mountain behind the second Pyramid. The enormous expanses of open rock and gigantic boulders make it very enticing to the back country bushwalker. This was my first attempt, and I made it up to the lower western slabs via the striking outcrop beside the second Pyramid. There was still a large section of boulder-strewn forest between myself and the highest point.
