Can someone tell me why the 'input coordinate system' field when using the MAPIMPORT command is not automatically populated with the coordinate system of the GiS data (shapefile)? All shape files in GIS format have an associated *.prj file which contains this information and it seems would be easy for C3D/Map3D to read and set the value automatically. We are always hunting the correct projection by looking in the *.prj file. Typical GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc) have this ability when data is imported. It would seem that AutoDesk developers would possess the intelligence to do the same...
