Something I love about One Piece is how all the characters are humanised. They were all children once, all victims of the system they are trapped in under the World Government. Many of them that grow up to do evil are doing it to survive in an inherently predatory system, while others try to break that system. It doesn’t lessen their crimes if they do bad, but it ultimately frames most characters as being on the same side weather they know it yet or not
