Now let's suppose we had more than 10 text files. Should I do a git add for each of these files? Or is there another way to do a git init on all the files?
@RaghavPal6 ай бұрын
you will have to do git init only once for a project, at the starting. To add all the 10 files you can do git add . the . will add all files for commiting and then you can run git commit and push commands Also you can try this: If the text files are in the same directory and you want to add all of them, you can use a wildcard to add all text files at once. For example, if all text files have a .txt extension, you can run: git add *.txt If the text files are located in different directories, you can use the directory path to add all files within that directory. For example, if all text files are in a directory named texts, you can run: git add texts/

Hi Raghav, after giving push command I'm getting following error error: src refspec master does not match any error: failed to push some refs to "remote repository Path"
@RaghavPal8 ай бұрын
The error message you're encountering, "error: src refspec master does not match any", typically occurs when you attempt to push changes to a remote repository, but the local branch you're trying to push doesn't exist or hasn't been committed yet. Let's troubleshoot this: 1. Check Your Commits: - Ensure that you've committed your changes locally using the following commands: ``` git add . git commit -m "Your commit message" ``` - Replace `"Your commit message"` with an appropriate description of your changes. 2. Verify Your Branch: - Confirm that you're on the correct branch. If you're working with the `master` branch, make sure it exists. - Note that some repositories now use `main` as the default branch instead of `master`. If that's the case, replace `master` with `main` in your commands. 3. Push to the Correct Branch: - If you're pushing to the `master` branch, use: ``` git push origin master ``` - If your repository uses `main`, use: ``` git push origin main ``` 4. Force Push (Caution): - If you're sure about your changes and want to overwrite the remote branch, you can force push: ``` git push origin master --force ``` Be cautious with this option, as it can potentially overwrite others' work. Remember to replace `origin` with the actual name of your remote repository and adjust the branch name accordingly.

Raghav, I'm having problems with pushing the local files to my git hub repo. The first difference from your presentation was that I couldn't get the github.git link to copy into my git bash command line. So I typed it in after git remote add origin. Then I tried the git push -u origin master and got an error. I can't seem to copy from the git bash window to this text box. But basically the error msg says that updates were rejected because the remote contains work that I do not have locally. The only thing I put in that remote repo2 was a readme file....could that be it? What should I do now?
@RaghavPal7 жыл бұрын
Yes Jeanne, for copying issue try go to options of your git bash (by clicking on the top left of the window) in case you have added something on your remote repo, you will need to pull it first before you can push new changes. You can watch next videos on this series and understand that. Hope this help. Let me know if you still face any issues.

Hi Raghav I am getting this error "fatal: unable to auto-detect email address.. Please help
@RaghavPal11 ай бұрын
Sarayu Here's how to fix the "fatal: unable to auto-detect email address" error in Git: 1. Set Your Git User Name and Email: - Global Configuration: - Open a terminal and run: ```bash git config --global user.name "Your Name" git config --global user.email "your_email@example.com" ``` - Repository-Specific Configuration: - Navigate to the repository directory. - Run: ```bash git config user.name "Your Name" git config user.email "your_email@example.com" ``` 2. Check for Typos: - Ensure you've entered your name and email correctly in the commands above. 3. Check for Spaces: - Remove any leading or trailing spaces in the email address. 4. Override Local Configuration: - If you have a local configuration file (`.git/config`) with incorrect values, try: - Using `--global` flag to override local settings. - Editing `.git/config` manually to fix the email address. 5. Clear Git Cache: - In rare cases, clearing Git's cache might help: ```bash git config --global --unset user.email ``` 6. Reinstall Git: - If the issue persists, consider reinstalling Git to ensure proper configuration. - Visual Studio Users: Go to Git menu > Source Control > Git Repository Settings > General and set the User name and Email. - SmartGit Users: Go to Repository > Settings > Commit and set the User name and Email. Remember: - Use a valid email address that you can access, as Git uses it for commit authorship and communication. - If you're working on multiple projects with different email addresses, set them individually for each repository.

Once I login in github command framt and how to logout github command framt ,bcz to login another one.
@RaghavPal8 жыл бұрын
Git does not have a direct login / logout option. But you can set/change the user option anytime using: git config user.name git config user.email So while you are inside the repo and you run the above commands, you will start using git with the new user you have specified and all additions/commits will happen with this user. All additions and commit happen with default user set as: git config --global user.name "UserName" git config --global user.email "Email" You can also override global user configs for a particular repo. git config user.name "UserName" git config user.email "Email" To check the current user, run the command git config --global user.name OR git config user.name (this should show the current user) You can also validate the user who will be committing the changes. echo $GIT_COMMITTER_NAME # prints the value of GIT_COMMITTER_NAME echo $GIT_AUTHOR_NAME # prints the value of GIT_AUTHOR_NAME This can be changed by: GIT_COMMITTER_NAME=YourName GIT_AUTHOR_NAME=YourName Hope this helps.

How I reset git and remove all history,I realy made a mess
@RaghavPal Жыл бұрын
Hi Anneline, If you want to completely remove all history and start fresh with a new git repository, you can follow these steps: Delete the .git folder in your project directory. This folder contains all the git history, configuration, and other related files Remove any cached files using the git rm --cached command. This will remove all the files that were previously added to git, but not the actual files from your local directory. Optionally, create a new initial commit by running git init and then adding and committing your files. Finally, if you want to start using the repository with a remote git repository, you can add the new remote by running git remote add origin and push the new initial commit using git push -u origin master. It's important to note that by doing this, you will lose all the previous history and changes made to the repository. Therefore, you should only do this if you're certain that you want to completely start fresh with a new git repository.

@@RaghavPal Hi Raghav, thanks for the reply. It was due mismatch in username and email ID that was being used. The git picked up my office email but my account was gmail based. It is resolved now :)
