In Sweden, the common nickname for Veuve Clicquot is literally translated as ”The Yellow Widow”. I think most older people who have some notion of sparkling white would recognize that term.

I drank warm Veuve Clicquot out of the bottle in the desert in front of one of the Giza pyramids on the last night of the previous millennium. We were there for the Jean-Michel Jarre concert, but missed pretty much all of it thanks to my idiot acquaintance who refused to leave town in time to avoid traffic jams. My stomach was messed up. We were still in the taxi at midnight and I needed a toilet real bad, so I refused to open the wine until I had arrived and found a toilet. We chugged tequila instead. When we finally opened the wine and lit a cigar, the concert was over. We then slept on the sand and woke up to a foggy morning instead of what could have been a fantastic and memorable sunrise. We did get a short encore from Jarre in the morning if I recall correctly. I'm never going back to Egypt and I haven't talked to the idiot ever since we parted ways later that trip. How was your millenium celebration?
