What's the difference between doing it this way and using gitbash ? is it still the same but easier?
@UbilifeLab6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Git via Eclipse and git via bash (I assume you mean the bash shell) can do very similar things. Eclipse-based git is easier for many users because it provides a graphical user interface. If you truly want to understand how git works, then using git via bash can be a great learning experience.

Is it a best practice to ignore the .classpath and .project files?
@UbilifeLab7 жыл бұрын
That's an excellent question and I would say that it depends on the situation. On one hand, if you expect that the developers contributing to your project might use different IDEs (i.e. not only Eclipse), then you should probably ignore .classpath and .project files. On the other hand, if the project is relatively small and developers use only Eclipse, then committing those files can be advantageous (e.g., importing the project to workspace is simple). In the latter case, I would advice to avoid absolute paths in .classpath and .project files. In both cases, it would be advantageous to utilize Maven or Gradle to manage library dependencies and other aspects of the building process. Eclipse wiki has a short FAQ about sharing a project in a repo: wiki.eclipse.org/FAQ_How_do_I_set_up_a_Java_project_to_share_in_a_repository%3F
@bhargavbonu35076 жыл бұрын
cannot move project to target location which contains a .project file. It is happening while I am sharing my project. Can you tell me how I can overcome this.?
@UbilifeLab6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I am not sure what you mean. The presence of .project file indicates that there is already an Eclipse project in that location. If the project is not necessary, try deleting the .project file and other Eclipse-specific files. If you want to prevent .project file from being shared to others, you could try adding it to the .gitignore file. This way it would not be committed and pushed to the repository, but it would also mean the project configuration would not be shared. Good luck!

Newer Eclipse versions (e.g. Neon) have changed the commit view. When you do Team > Commit..., you see the new "Git Staging" view. Try this: 1. Choose those files from "Unstaged Changes" that you wish to commit and drag them to "Staged Changes". Optionally, you can double -click a file to see the changes between local and remote versions. 2. Write a commit message. 3. Hit "Commit and Push..." Please let me know if it works.

What we should do if we want to start a new project and we already create Repo in github and we want to create new local repo by clone it from github , cuz it will just pop up the old one for me ?!
@UbilifeLab6 жыл бұрын
I don't know if I understand your situation correctly. You can try to open the Git Repositories view (Window > Show View > Other... > Git > Git Repositories) and click the second Git icon at the top of the view (tooltip: "Clone a Git Repository..."). In the window that opens, you can choose to use a previously defined repository location or create a new location to your Github repository. Good luck!

hello there, newbie here i cant see any master branch on my clone git repository dialog box, what should i do ?
@UbilifeLab7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! It is hard to say what could be wrong without seeing your setup. My guess is that URI or authentication info is incorrect, or there is a temporary network issue. Did you try to update to the latest Eclipse version? Restarting Eclipse might also do the trick. I hope you can resolve it!

You might also want to try entering your email into the "user" field instead of your username. I think it's pretty annoying that it doesn't show you that the authentication failed.
@UbilifeLab7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That's a good suggestion. I am able to authenticate either with my GitHub username or my e-mail address that I use for GitHub.

Hi, at 1.50 you say its a pull which will fetch and update the working directory from local repository. Isn't is merge which does so? Pull actually does fetch + merge? kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZKVqWSff6t9jcU
@UbilifeLab7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and providing your comment! You are right. Pull is indeed a fetch + merge. The video that you linked is useful as it explains all important Git operations clearly. The git pull command documentation also states: "Incorporates changes from a remote repository into the current branch. In its default mode, git pull is shorthand for git fetch followed by git merge FETCH_HEAD." (git-scm.com/docs/git-pull) Happy coding!
