I am old now, and I have outlived my wives and my children. Most of my life is behind me, and most of that life is captured in photographs that no-one sees but me. This song hits me in a very special way.

This song brings perspective to so many people who make up things to feel like victims today. They have no clue what rough is or what surviving can mean.

I am not military. But I know rough and surviving. You never know the battles others are facing. You can spend a minute in my mind and you'll want out before you reach a minute.
@bulletsandbracelets4140 Жыл бұрын
We can acknowledge that people have different struggles without belittling people going through a hard time. Just because you know others had it worse doesn't mean you have to think you have it easy. Struggles are different for different people and that's okay. This is just a pretty rough, harsh way to look at the people around you. It's normal to want a better hand than what life's dealt you sometimes.
@kevinkerns1658 Жыл бұрын
Very well said. You never know the battles someone else is fighting. So treat others respectfully. It doesn't cost anything to be nice. And saying hello may be nothing to you but means the world to the other person. I'm sick of judgmental people. I stopped one day and sat with a homeless man. Turned out he was a Veteran and he said he watches people walk by him daily so I asked him what he needed he hadn't eating in 3 days so I took him to get food and then got him a motel room. I don't know what ever come of him. I still drive by where he was that day but haven't seen him. This is an example that I went past the hello with him. But he said it felt great getting to talk to someone.
@betsybabf748 Жыл бұрын
Many like to be career victims today. Some 20 years olds fight world wars to save lives and for our freedom, while others hyperventilate because someone used the wrong word. Some strongly lived through the depression, fighting to eat every day, while others cry and feel oppressed because they didn't get to have the party they wanted during a world pandemic. It's up to parents to teach kids the difference, and many parents are failing today. It's not nice nor respectful to not know and teach the difference.

When I watch these reaction videos, especially with a song like In Color, I wonder if the host is going to get it, or are they just interested in hearing themselves talk. Your reaction was perfect. You paused the song because of the KZbin rules, stumbled over a few words and then told yourself to shut up and finish watching the video. You got it! With a song like this it speaks for itself. And please please please never say a video is "deep" (you didn't thank God); it's the most overused and plain stupid thing you can say about an emotional reaction to a song. The most dramatic response is to simply be speechless. I have seen grown men cry listening to Jamey Johnson and his tribute to the greatest generation who lived through the great depression and saved the world.
@bigrig4177 Жыл бұрын
This song always reminds me of my Grandfather. His life mirrored this song. He grew up in the Great Depression on a farm in Tennessee. He was a Marine in WWII where he earned the Silver Star. He met the love of his life, she was also a Marine, married her and they spent the rest of their lives together until his death.

I already knew and listened to this song by Jamey Johnson. It carried me back in time to my childhood. And to beat it all, I have just been looking through a lot of old black and white pictures of my daddy when he was in WWII. He got drafted in December 1941 right after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. He told me that from the time he got on the bus to leave Alabama he didn't see a soul he knew until he got back home after the war ended. He was in the 8th Army Air Force stationed in England the whole time he was gone. The base he was at got bombed so many times by the Germans that after breathing in all the smoke from them it killed the top half of both his lungs. His next older brother got shot by a German soldier. The 8 mm rifle bullet hit him in the left shirt pocket right over his heart, but it got stopped by a small pocket bible. Tell me someone wasn't watching over him that day. There were 8 boys in his family and 5 of them were in WWII at the same time. Fortunately, all 5 made it back home alive. My biggest regret was not spending more time with him talking about it. I was still in my wilder years when he died on December 3rd, 1980. It truly hurts my heart when I start remembering him wanting to spend more time with me but I was into drinking and drugs (which he had no use for) so I chose to stay away on that path instead. Two years after he died I finally was able to quit my sorry way of life and straightened up. I know he would be so proud of the man I became and he didn't get to see. I lost him when I was 22, my brother when I was 34 and my mother when I was 49. I'm the last man standing from my birth family and it sure gets lonely at times wishing I could talk to them again but the only thing I can talk to now is a tombstone. But I have a drawer full of good memories in my head that I can pull out and look at any time I want to. I'm 44 years older now since he died and some of these great country songs still bring the tears from my eyes while listening to them and the memories start flooding my mind. Well, look at me just rambling on, and you thought you talked a lot. I think you're great doing these reaction videos. Keep up the great work my friend. Thanks!

this reminds me of my grandpa and grandma so much. I would sit on his lap as he told me stories. he lived a heck of a life. He ran liquor thru Kansas for Al Capone in his early life. He always had brand new cars....I have a bunch of pictures of him with his cars and he looked just like the gangsters of the day. He was a carpenter when he was older, helped build both Los Alamos in New Mexico and Rocky Flats in Colorado. ( both nuclear bomb facilities) He sure loved my grandma....miss them both dearly.

Mine too… only heard a few stories. It was like he was here and then he was there. It was always fresh… that look of seeing across the decades and the flat tone on his voice… almost like a confession. He made to Guam and his squad was so far ahead of main body, our own Navy started dropping shells on them. They limped off the hill with the more wounded and the Japs followed them down shooting the whole way. He said they dropped off the critical and those who could fight made sure not a man jack one of those soldiers made it back to Japan.
