I just picked up mw5 on steam with all the DLC pre clans DLC release. these videos have changed how i think and improved my noob butt to the franchise. This is my first foray into Mechwarrior and you're videos of lore and builds as well as theory and gameplay have brought me from rage induced fury to competent mission clear. I adjusted this for the Longbow-0W since it was the only one i had

Yeah these are all geared towards new players which is why I limit myself to low tech gear and often fight at disadvantages. You will be able to improve upon these farther, but my job is to show you the basics so you can explore and design your own mech... logically, instead of just throwing random shit in.

@@GitGudFox That's the way to teach, give them the tools to survive and learn by themselves. I am watching the videos while adjusting loadouts and learning at the same time. On a beach defense i used your classic marauder with a lance mate to intercept all new wave's while using lance mate rifle-3n and a daka mal-1r to sit on the satellite sites and bombard from range. I grabbed a hill and just whacked them down with lrm's from 1k. easiest clear i've ever done. supporting the marauder. less than 20k damage across the whole team I literally learned how from using the videos and builds and restarting the mission until i understood the roles and strengths of each mech.

Yeah, a lot of people dislike long range combat with like lasers and LRMs because they aren't as optimized strategies, but the new player is not usually ready to immediately take on optimized strategies like headshot builds. Long range combat can also be a little easier to wrap your head around since you save armor by defeating enemies at a distance. Close combat is very strong, and you save armor by defeating enemies very quickly with massive damage output, but it also exposes you to a lot of damage and requires a lot more piloting skill and terrain management such as advancing on enemies through trees to spoil their long range attacks or weaving through buildings to get closer while not exposing yourself to long range bombardment etc. The new PPC-X makes close combat for new players a lot more attractive though as PPC-X is really, really strong and pretty easy to use.

An excellent, insightful video. Re: Chu-i Cedric Sveinson, the notable Longbow Pilot form Sorenson’s Sabers. His gunnery skill is average (rated:4) but his piloting skills is exceptional (rated:0), so in the tabletop game, any light mech that steps up to his longbow will likely be punted to kingdom come.

I have been looking forward to this one. Looks like a similar setup that I tried. I was a bit disappointed in this mech. I am sure if the AI was actually smart it would perform better, but since I do not prefer to pilot these it does not work out well for me. That being said it is a great video, I do really like how you do these.

Yes, that's just what I wanted. I know people tend to dislike feeling powerless with full LRM builds since the AI focuses on the player's Mech.

Stalker vs Longbow? What is better for which Job. I think the Longbow is a damn good Missleboat but have mostly only Missle. He is also weak in Armor. The Stalker is more diffrent in terms of laser and Missle

All Mechs should have the same armor based on their weight. They have the same armor maxes to be more specific based on their max weight. The Stalker is probably better than the Longbow since it can fight up close more effectively.

Just out of curiosity, what about just replacing the M Lasers for M Laser- SB's? or would that be considered advanced?

You can do that. It'd be a matter of personal preference. There are differences between ML and ML-SB, but they require a lot of use to feel them.

Take off the LRMs, slap on SRMs and you have one of the punchiest mechs in the game. I am no longer a missle boat but more like a foreboding armageddon

That would work better on a faster 64km model. Going all SRMs on a 44km model is a great way to just get pounded at a distance. The 64km Longbows especially the Hailstorm have the speed to reliably use the SRMs.
