Jimmy Rose - Coal Keeps the Lights On
Dedicated to all our beloved coal miners in America. I'm a son of a retired coal miner. Coal miners are a tough breed and full of courage to get coal out of the ground many miles under. May God bless you and your families. From a friend of coal.
A special "THANKS" to Jimmy Rose who allow us to share his awesome song. I wanted to add a video underground of miners and them working with their equipment.
ORIGINAL
Jimmy Rose - Coal Keeps the Lights On (America's Got Talent)
• Video
If you get any comfort from any of our videos, give our Father in Heaven the PRAISE, HONOR, and GLORY. We surely can't thank God enough for His countless blessings. It's just a blessing to be able to upload them for some comfort. May God bless us, our loved ones, our churches, the sick, the hungry, the afflicted. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers. MUCH LOVE to all!

That first verse reminds me of coming home from an overnight 12 hour shift and seeing my son sleeping on the couch. He would always sneak out of bed and go back to sleep on the couch so that he could see me the second I got home. When I would walk in he would always sit up and yell daddy and jump up and run and hug me. Made everything worth it. Best feeling in the world.

@gREGORY, you are spot on when you say CRAP! ....whats this "bro-country shit? now they are using snap tracks like they do in hip hop..... a bunch of it sounds like modern country fused with a little rap! then there is this so called country, that sounds like soft 80s metal. bryan adams and bon jovi....nothing wrong with them, but it does not belong in country. keep country, country. keep rock, rock. I'm not saying this because Im older, there was cheezy crap back in the day, but now its just tripe. it has no heart. no roots, its getting to be like hip hop, every damn song sounds the same. as far as new country except this, when is the last time you heard a ballad that tore you in two? or a good country jam with fiddles and steel guitars...these days they are few and far between. went to see jason aldean, with eric church, and the jane deer girls....remember that one song they did 10 years ago?...lol me either, we went and right away I was unhappy with the pa. system. it was small, what we in the metal community call a "pencil pa", no sub banks, just cabinets that contained 2 '10s with a tweeter in the middle. 2 stacks, one on both sides of the stage suspended from the rafters. it sounded ok, but they were playing a club beat over classic country and had it way to loud, or actually, ...it was to many watts, and not enough speakers. when the bass hit, you could actually hear the speakers "plop" over the music! the term "plop" is when you are over driving the capacity of the speaker to the point it compresses so hard when the bass hits, it hits the frame causing a "plop" sound. and when you can hear that over the music....the volume is up waaay to far. they were pushing 50,000 w through a 20,000 w system , and that was the music playing as they were setting up the stage between bands. when the bands played it sounded a little better because of their stage amps....sorta helped fill in what the pa couldnt. other than a shitty pa, it wasnt a bad show.I still like eric church and jason aldean as far as modern country goes, because they have alot of good songs. as for the jane deer girls, their 5 min of fame expired about 8 and a half years ago.....btw jane deer girls sucked. its all about money, and screw the fans.

I father is a retired coal miner. He worked 30 years in the coal mine. The song is true. He worked for the family. He was able to provide a good life for his family. What people don't see or understand is all the moments in his kids lives he missed cause he was working to make a living. People don't see these men come home dirty and nasty. Thank you Dad for working like you did to provide for me.

JIMMY ROSE Coal Keeps the lights on He pulls in that ole' Chevy from a second shift. Mama's still sleeping, kids still crashed down on the couch. He goes on the backdoor; he don't wanna wake them up. So he wipes the coal dust off his face and hits his knees. He says, "Lord, I want to thank you for everything. And the strength you give me to make it day by day. Coal keeps the lights on. My hometown keeps food on the spoon in my youngin's mouth. Tires on the truck and a sundress on my baby girl. Coal keeps the bills paid, the clothes on the backs, and shoes on the feet in the high school halls of the Mountain Lions and the Bill County Bobcats on the hill. They went plumb down crazy in Washington. They're talking about closing the mines. They're gonna bleed us all dry from the inside out. They don't care that much about the little man or the calloused hands. It's a way of life 'round, just like it's always been Coal keeps the lights on. If I get the chance to stand one day, And name the things to me that I'm most proud of, Well, I hope one day I can say, that coal kept the lights on. My hometown keeps food on the spoon in my youngin's mouth. Tires on the truck and a sundress on my baby girl. Coal kept the bills paid, the clothes on the backs, and shoes on the feet in the high school halls of the Mountain Lions and the Bill County Bobcats on the hill. I hope I can say that coal kept the lights on.

The 27 people (so far) that gave this video a thumbs down was using a computer or phone that was or will need to be connected to electricity, no doubt coal powered...connected to wifi, that is likely powered by coal... in a comfortable house likely because of coal... able to eat because of coal...able to bathe...able to drink clean water... etc etc etc... think about it before you thumb down this... without coal we would have a lot more to worry about than internet, wifi or even lights... great video, great song... great man... thanks for serving and thanks for keeping the lights on... :) God Bless

Love this song, along with coal miner's hands by black water outlaws. I grew up in breathitt county a small coal mining town in eastern kentucky. I left in 2007 after I joined the army, last year I visited for the first time in ten years and took my wife along to see my town. And just a year later I'm working in one of the coal mines Wyoming as a haul truck operator. Crazy to think I followed the footsteps of what my entire family has done even though I swore I'd never do it, reckon it's meant to be.

My family came from the Kentucky and so this song is close to home. With that said It hits home because we were poor and my husband worked so hard in factories to make sure our kids had what they needed! Love this song!

Unexpectedly stumbled across this song on the internet and was instantly hooked! I love what this song represents. A hard working family man with good morals seems to be diminishing these days. Your voice and songs are awesome Jimmy. And as a fellow Marine, Semper Fi!
