Here's a new home video I cooked up: a lovely theme and variations by Mr. Mauro Giuliani, the infamous Italian guitarist of the 19th century. Many guitarists nowadays find his music exceptionally dull. However, I find (some of) his music quite dynamic!
During Giuliani's time, opera was all the rage, and I'd be surprised if the hyper-romantic virtues of that genre didn't influence Giuliani's own music. Therefore, I like to imagine each variation as a different operatic moment - perhaps the entrance to a stately general, a comedic jester, or a sorrowful aria.
By the way, the name of the Austrian folk song is "I bin a Kohlbauern Bub" which translates from German as "I am a cabbage farmer boy."
