6:12 ruthless pinky blinder from Birmingham, eh! I have been blindedly void the pinky on the upper registers, from so much preaching against it. Like you mentioned, if a fingering can be done which helps avoid moving around and still sounds like it should be, then it becomes a good choice. I have had a similar routine exercise set like that which I have developed over the years. My advice for students is, when it starts hurting, take a break. I have not used the pinky up there, with fear of commiting a sacriledge and going to hell for it, as per my teacher. The way you put it, it does seem like an alternative (not going to hell, but the possibility of using the pinky finger on the upper registers to help execute a tricky passage of a piece). I still would never risk going to hell for doing that, lol.

I use 4 fingers as much as it is possible. So much better! You need to reinforce 3rd and 4th , make them working distantly. But coming from guitar, I find this extremely natural e more effective in fast passages.

I am Old, I'm English, and I went to school. Does that mean that I can use all four fingers? ;-)

4:25 ah! I call these "finger intelligence" exercises and teach this too. But not for young hands. It can cause injury on immature hands. Careful.
