That's because the other were in scope of the mass media. Domingo and Careras didn't deserve it. Pavarotti is another story, Pavarotti was THE VOICE anyway. An unique voice. Giacomini was a great tenor, a dramatic one, while Pavarotti was rather lyric tenor. You cannot have both at the same time.

I admit that I never warmed to the voice of Pavarotti. I think he could make any aria sound like a street song...no matter the opera it always sounds as if he's singing 'O Sole Mio' whilst winking at an audience. Then I hear Giacomini sing and I think, "Oh, THIS is how it's supposed to sound!" A beautiful, studied, mature performance.

Kraus would be an overtone in giacomos voice. But AK does have good technique. But again AK is not nearly as prodigious as GG.
@benjaminjacobs55532 жыл бұрын
@@brunoantony3218 Weird that you are trying to educate someone who actually sang on-stage with Giacomini. Also weird that you would ever compare Kraus to Giacomini. The two are completely different in terms of voice type, size of voice, timbre, and vocal production. Alfredo Kraus was a fine artist in terms of musicality, phrasing, and emotion. However, by his own admission his vocal production was very much in the mask. In my opinion, this is the reason it lacked the darkness of a chiaroscuro full lyric sound. Giacomini may be a little bit wooden in his interpretation (compared to Kraus, but not generally). But, his vocal technique was in another world.
@hiyadroogs2 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminjacobs5553 I agree wholeheartedly Ben. An opera singer is a vocal athlete. & the closer one gets to the outer edges of the full potential power & range of the voice, the more temperamental the voice becomes. A light lyric voice is inheritantly stable, because it functions comfortably inside its ultimate dynamic potential. A huge dramatic voice, however, is always produced at 90% of its full dynamic potential. Therefore it has almost no reserve capacity to draw upon when the singer's health, hydration, sleep, or bio rhythms are not 100%. Consistency is far more challenging than with the smaller voices. It's like a weight lifter, who cannot expect to lift his maximum weight on every occasion he attempts it. Muscles need rest & time to consolidate. Sometimes, the voice just doesn't want to know, & there's nothing to do but to back off & nurse it along on the technique.

There are literally no tenors today who have such richness, power and beauty of tone as Giacomini. None with such pure dramatic quality. It is impossible to cast dramatic opera any more with the current crop of lightweight tenors around. They all sing in their nose and with little or no pharyngeal ringing tone. This technique seems to have been lost. 50 years ago, there were many tenors capable of singing dramatic roles. Now, all we get is Mozart tenors strangling through big repertoire.
