Halloween Ends may have fans completely split down the middle at the moment, but I believe there's a huge key element about the movie that people are missing. In today's video, I ask Halloween fans to give me FIVE MINUTES to change their minds about Halloween Ends, by explaining some of the more common ciriticisms about the movie.

Most viewers despised Halloween trilogy from 2018-2022. After watching Halloween ends a few weeks ago. It started to hit me where David Gordon green was goi g with the story. Having rewatched all 10 previous Halloween movies 🎬. It truly is brilliant to end a 40 year story like this. Blumhouse or another studio might reboot the franchise. Halloween ends tied together a story better then most screenwriters could have done.

Also for a blink and you’ll miss it scene, when Corey is stabbing the doctor with the bag over his head, if you look closely at the background as the lady with the red hair steps outside, you can see Corey already stabbing him in the darkness. I actually enjoyed Halloween Ends! Someone mentioned it below, but I definitely want to try making an edit of all three movies in the new trilogy (2018, Kills, Ends), but if anyone sees this, I would appreciate some ideas for what to take out and what to leave in... I know a lot of people had issues with some stuff in Kills, and I don't want it to be like, a 6-hour movie, so... any help would be appreciated! I'd definitely take out the time-jump at the end of Kills, and probably put the flashback police scene at the start...

I respectfully disagree. If the previous two Halloween films highlighted how Michael Myers was human than I would have 100% agreed with you. But there are several moments in both the 2018 film and Halloween Kills which strongly imply he isn’t human. Although to be honest I would have preferred it if none of the films implied Myers had supernatural abilities to begin with
@emmachapman1179

Exactly, she kept saying every kill he gets stronger. Kills 20 ppl at the end of kills including karen and then is weak and goes in 2hidin for 4yrs and no1 else back at home is no longer scared of him coming back!

@@emmachapman1179 I agree. I would have been more ok with Michael Myers being weak in this film if he wasn’t such a powerhouse in the other two films. Remember, they all took place on the same night. So even on top of getting jumped at the end of HK by that mob, he also got ran over and was just casually chilling inside a burning building

I definitely don't think Kills highlighted how MM was human. If anything, it seemed to go in the opposite direction despite what DGG had assured fans. And the stuff he survived in Ends was ridiculous too. Ugh ...
@millyoneyedeaz1350
@millyoneyedeaz1350 Жыл бұрын
You can disagree all you like, John Carpenter settled this debate 40 years ago. Michael is human with supernatural powers, thats it. Supernatural doesnt mean immortal. There are vampires who are easier to kill than Michael, yet they still die and are supernatural beings. Those moments from 78, 2018 and kills all imply he's human. As Carpenter said about the face reveal "it was important to unmask him at the end, so the audience remembers, there's a man under there, not a monster" Even Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost has supernatural abilities, so does Tina in Friday 13th, both still human. Carrie as well, the list goes on.
@CynsCorner
@CynsCorner Жыл бұрын
Carpenter described him as "almost a supernatural force" i.e., he did not say he was supernatural. And even DGG confirmed a while back that Michael is human. However, the way he treated the character in Kills and Ends made him sound like a liar. And that's why Kills and Ends were so awful. At least with 2018 there was some semblance of reality built into the character. That all went down the toilet with the last two films.

I really enjoyed Halloween Ends but my main complaint is that it ignores previous plot threads. In Kills Hawkins was so adamant about being the one to kill Myers but in Ends he doesn’t seem interested in Myers at all. In Kills he confesses to Laurie about the cop he accidentally killed and the coverup. This backstory is completely ignored in Ends. I would’ve liked to see Hawkins come clean about it and inform the cop’s family about what happened.

I literally just got back from the theater and although you gave me a reasonable perspective to think about i still have reservations about calling it a good movie. The original movies and this trilogy followed a certain formula that lasted up to this movie and i don't personally believe that subverting expectation by changing the entire formula and equally changing Myers from Fear, Death and Evil itself to just an older man in a suit and a mask. I can't see how 1 movie ago he gets beaten to death (by any human standard) then comes back and kills half the neighborhood with minimal difficulty to the next movie being overwhelmed by a 70yr old lady. Im gonna consider your perspective and hopefully ill change my mind about it. Thank you for all that you do BTM. Keep up the great work.

This is my problem too. Can the content creator explain how he is superhuman in kills but now he’s human? The only thing I can think of, and it’s the best thing noted in this video, the destruction of his house now has him completely lost mentally and maybe physically as well and with that no longer driving him now he’s weak? So I’m the end all they needed to do was bull doze the house? Also what is it about the house that drives him really? Really received no answers in this movie

You didn't change my mind because Michael being weak and dying in the end is not even a huge problem in Ends but more of a weird choice. The major problem is Corey being killed off and completely wasted after we have just watched his story for 1h 30 minutes. The guy was written good enough that I was invested in his character throughout act 1 and 2. Even when he was evil, I still liked his character and wanted him to become the new shape but the third act wasted that potential for a cliché mistunderstanding moment between Laurie and Allyson. They could have done much more interesting things with him.

That all we wanted for and ending ….. So Laurie was so bat sht crazy to be ready and prepared for Michael but he stabbed her own daughter to death and now Laurie is like ….. well I’m gonna let it go and move on with life … WTH 🤦‍♂️ It’s not hate it’s just disappointment people thing it’s hating the movie no…… it’s disappointment. Don’t show us a trailer where Laurie-and Michael seem to face off finally and it be about them … then 40mins into it finally Michael shows up …. Slowly slowly and they made Corey a bad guy? I really, really loved it. I'm so glad it had the balls to do something completely out of the ordinary, because let's face it, if it was solely about Michael and Laurie, "fans" would've complained that it's just a repetitive Halloween film with no originality. But, all of a sudden, a film does something new and everyone decides to lose their shit and cry about it. If they decided to make this film completely about the two of them, it really would've just been a repeat of Halloween 2018. Instead of getting a repeat, we get something that builds off of a story we know, while adding in some spice. We get a different type of story that doesn't absolutely veer off the original source material, but it still delivers some gruesome kills and awesome scenes, all while tying in with the main story of Michael and Laurie. Lindsay's Tarot Cards literally foreshadow the plot. When Allyson gets the "Death" Card, Lindsay explains how it's supposed to represent the end of something that's been continuing on and on, and the birth of something fresh and new. Of course, there were a few things about this new film that could've been handled differently or better than it did, but that can be said about any film in existence. I'm glad that this is what we got for a final film including Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. I'm glad Laurie finally defeated her boogeyman. I'm glad she gets to move on.

I think you’ve done a good job of explaining the film, definitely given me something to think upon…but I still feel dissatisfied with it. Might not be the worst Halloween but it’s down there. Part of it is because of the trailer- this wasn’t the film they were advertising- but primarily because they couldn’t seem to make up their mind about Michael being supernatural or not. In 2018, I could believe he was a mortal, if something beyond normal men thanks to the evil and insanity and urge to kill driving him to superhuman levels of strength and endurance. He might be able to lift someone with one hand but he still lost his fingers and flinched when slashed. But Kills makes him out to be more than that. He survives and deals out even more in that film, like when the mob surrounds him and deal several death blows but he still rises to kill them all. And Laurie and the Sheriff both make him out to be an evil force gaining power and strength from every kill - something Ends seems to confirm when the limping, weakened Michael stands up straighter and appears to heal his shoulder after killing the cop. Not to mention somehow looking into Corey’s eyes and either recognising the evil inside him or spreading his own evil to Corey or…whatever that was meant to be. I prefer the idea of a madman in a mask with access to incredible abilities than a supernatural entity, but I’d rather they stick to one or the other. Frankly it felt like they tried to have it both ways and the inconsistency let this finale down.

I did not dislike this movie at all. In fact, once I realized that none of the new trilogy as well as the original movie were actually about Michael, I was fine with what was happening in Ends. The movies were about Michael’s effect on the town and the people who live there. Slasher villains were never meant to be the larger than life mega stars they became in the sequels of the 80’s and 90’s. The new trilogy took it back to what Carpenter had originally intended. Michael is simply a force of nature, like a tornado or a hurricane. These movies have all been about the fallout during and after the storm. 2018, the storm is coming. Kills your in the eye of the storm. Ends is picking up the pieces, but also about some people needing to blame someone for what simply was out of their control. (Who didn’t do enough to prevent it, proper precautions not being taken, whose fault the storm was etc.) it showed how we make our own monsters sometimes. I’d even say I liked Corey’s decent here more than I liked Michael’s decent in the Zombie remake. This movie even made me appreciate Kills more. I think once the super fans get over the lack of Michael they will appreciate Ends more just like they did part 3. I loved this movie and the new trilogy as a whole.

I agree with this concept. It is fine to like or dislike something for people have different preferences and tastes. As a halloween fan myself, I too expected a different showdown, but it was satisfying. They gave Laurie a great character and a good ending. Myers was portrayed realistically and still was terrifying. Although Corey's entry seemed sudden, his character was understandable. The effect of relentless bullying, the victim blaming and paranoia...the themes were depicted well. It may not have looked like a great addition in contrast to the first two movies, but it was emotional and satisfying.

You absolutely did not change my mind. This was a poorly made movie with a storyline that made no sense. I would’ve loved to have Cory take over as Michael from part 1 of this trilogy and keep the legend of Michael myers alive. We get no resolution and saying that Michael is human destroys his mythos. If that’s the case why was Cory able to see michael’s history? Is Laurie superhuman? She can literally throw a fridge and beat up Michael like he was nothing? This series is awful.

You said a lot of things I’ve been thinking also, this last film felt very disconnected, and I’m struggling to understand why the directors would directly connect the first two with the ending scene of 2018 being the beginning scene of Kills with the house on fire 🔥- and then the ending scene of Kills when Laurie picks up the phone and says “im coming for you Michael” and drops it, grabs the knife 🔪 and walks out like a badass alluding that in the next film it’s gonna pick up here and we are gonna see a absolute gory bloody violent bloodbath of a shows fight between her and Michael. Even the trailers made it seem that way, and it just wasn’t. At all. There’s this weird time jump that leaves so many questions on the table: what happened to Laurie when she left the hospital? What happened when she got back to the house? Was Michael still there? Was he gone? It could have literally picked up from this last scene and just played off of that for the whole film. We could have seen Laurie go back to the house, catch Michael by surprise, maybe they fight but because Laurie is weakened already, Michael gets the best of her and get me away. For now. Then she finds Karen’s body, and cries uncontrollingly mourning the death of her daughter, they have a memorial, Laurie is in pieces barely holding on, and now we get to witness the classic revenge tale the rising of the Phoenix through the ashes where Laurie rebuilds herself again even stronger than before because she knows she has one year until next Halloween to prepare, to be ready. Fight night. The final showdown. And it’s going to the bloodiest, nastiest, most violent horror scene to date. This would have kept it connected, and literally picked up from the last ending scene just like the first two. But no, instead we got this flop of a movie that went rogue, it’s all over the place and just wasn’t making any sense. Michael being weak didn’t make any sense either, remembering Lauries comment at the end of Kills “You can’t kill him with brute force. I used to think he was a man, made of flesh and blood. The more he kills, the more he transcends into this unstoppable force.” This right here is why this version of Michael being just a man doesn’t connect or make sense. Kills was going in one direction, and this film went in a complete opposite direction.

I think you're echoing my sentiments here. Even after Hawkins tells Laurie Michael isn't after her, she is still consumed by a desire to finish him, grabbing the knife and threatening him at the end of Kills. And now Myers has killed her daughter, so of course this would only intensify her rage - or so you would have to assume. I'm not going to argue the film they made isn't intriguing on its own terms - only that it feels as if we were cheated out of the follow-up to Kills they all but promised. That's what's so disappointing about Ends.
@Jimquivious
@Jimquivious Жыл бұрын
Ok Halloween Ends WAS supposed to be a direct continuation of Kills but due to the pandemic it forced the writers into a completely different direction and made it that 4 years had passed. About Michael being weak in Ends…. Well yes Laurie said the more he kills the more unstoppable he becomes. 4 years have passed with him living in a sewer, eating rats I imagine, with hardly any kills. So if he’s hardly had any kills he’s obviously going to become weaker. We see him gain strength when he kills Alison’s ex in the sewer.

Seems to be a lot of people who just instantly hate on films these days almost like they obsessively look for things to feel negative about or distort. Just my two cents, like I said I loved this film as a good closer for Laurie Strode. I’d love there to be a continuing with Cory’s story, almost like the “shape” persona becomes him now and it continues on with her granddaughter in another town. Could easily make another trilogy spin-off with that. Might be interesting to take that road!

This movie was awful. No continuity with prior character development. Michael's character gutted, a remorseless psychopath killer, suddenly has empathy in a random 21 year old after looking at him for 13 seconds, then tag teams killing with him? Laurie over preps for Michael for 40 years while he's in custody, but suddenly after Michael murders 40 people in Haddonfield in a single night, including Laurie's only daughter, then gets away, Laurie is chill about it and starts living a normal life while he's running free. Allyson falls in love with random kid and is ready to run away with him after knowing him for a grand total of 4 days, and argues with the grandmother that she trauma bonded with, and whom saved her life multiple times, and accuses Laurie of "being crazy" again, even though she made similar accusations in 2018, and came to find out her grandmother was correct about everything the entire time in the 2018 film. Michael is "just a man" but can withstand 8 or 9 stab wounds, pitchfork to the back, digital amputation by shotgun, about a dozen gunshot wounds, and not die by exsanguination or infection in a 4 year period. Nothing makes sense. I'm a pretty logical human, and I don't mind movie logic, but there needs to be consistency and continuity, there was no continuity. They were all over the place. And they marketed it as being all about Laurie and Michael, then gave Michael 6ish minutes of screen time. Just, so bad.

I think she should have evolved into the 2018 version since she had lost so much.They could have scrapped Corey's part and let the mob kill Michael at the conclusion, vice HK. Then afterwards have Laurie drop him into the grinder. Either way can't wait to see the alternate ending.

This video can only work if you ignore the whole entire premise of the supernatural that surrounds Michael Myers (and if anyone disagree with that then they had to say that the superhuman feats that Michael did never happened once) which is repeatedly taking place in Halloween and Halloween kills, which I think this movie with its premise could potentially be good in a another moive, but not with Halloween name. If you take away the Halloween name and the horror tag attached to it I think it movie could be good in another title but unfortunately is in a Halloween movie and not only that but it last chapter of the story, which leaves many unanswered questions like how did he survive all the shit that he been through why does he continue to kill people even tho he does not have to if there was a supernatural surrounding him how did it happen are they trying to bring back the colt a thorn Maybe (which I was open-minded to even though the curse of Michael Myers was not a really good movie)or Maybe people are not really looking for answers like that and instead they just want to see Michael Myer doing his thing and Jamie Lee doing her thing and two of them have this over a top fight to Avenged her daughter, but instead Halloween ends feels like it is playing two different stories one involves some sort of romantic storyline that nobody asked It felt like is out of place of Halloween name, another felt more like a pass to the torch with Corey (and yes I know they're going for what makes a Michael Myers is the town making Michael Myers many people being mean to another person makes a Michael Myer maybe those kids in the school bands being mean makes him Michael Myer Etc) which I felt like he's kind of out of place, listen I'm making this way too long as it is but to keep it short this story does not belong into a Halloween brand that's all.

In 5.1 the music was so loud and abrasive you had to lip read. Switching to stereo though made it better. Also voices never seemed centralised but made to fill the whole soundscape. I thought it was my system so tried kills in atmos and the sound mixing was fine.

The issue is that good writing doesn’t need subtext. You should not have to dig this deep in order to rationalize a commercial movie. It should be written well enough for the audience to comprehend it. It’s not Shakespeare or Vanye or Ibsen or Shaw where the reader expects dissection. It’s Michael Meyers. It does not line up with its 2 predecessors conceptually.

I absolutely am a Halloween super fan! And I love this movie. I think the people who don't like it,just don't understand it. The title is Halloween Ends,this is Laurie's story,this is every person in this towns story. But it's mainly Laurie's story,how she ends her boogyman, finally for her that night in 1978 is over. As far as Cory's story,I didn't feel it was pointless, because it reminds us that,evil never truly dies,it just changes shape. Just like what Laurie writes in her book. Michael should not be the main character. In Halloween 2018, Michael and Laurie were equally represented,In kills Michael was the main guy,in Ends Laurie is featured. To me it's all right there,it all fits and I'm very happy with this movie. I especially loved the Laurie, Michael final showdown. The way they finish Michael is brilliant,no way he's coming back from that. Not in this timeline anyway 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I read all theories and so called spoilers, I was so ready to embrace a difference, a new perspective, a new route for the movie but...No! It wasn't the copy cat killer that pissed me off, it was that half of the movie was a romance-drama between him and Allyson and the few glimpses we had of Michael, he was just a shell, a weakling, he hadn't any intimidating flame, he had nothing. The view of him getting "power" through killing, the view of him getting "bullied" by Corey was...no! Just no. He just showed up at the Dr.Mathis' house and then Laurie's to do Corey's bidding. No, just no. Even his last fight with Laurie was so short, yeah I liked she got the upper hand but it was just a flash of a scene. He had 10% of screen time and it wasn't acceptable for me. It could've worked if it wasn't part of that trilogy and it was the most likely the next movie but ending the trilogy with this? Ugh

@HorrorParadise

Some folk sadly wanted more elderly Michael slashing and beating up another elderly person while remaining OP despite wounded and aged another four years older. I think his essence was there throughout the entire film. I had enough of them fighting in this franchise throughout different timelines anyways. Halloween will also sadly always only identify as Michael because he’s the star attraction from whatever angle you look at it. That’s the selling point so for most he has to show his face for half if not all of the movie. Not Laurie, not Haddonfield. People seem to care less about that these days. The other things that can make a good Halloween movie as it’s not just some cheesy, simple slasher franchise. They definitely cared less come Halloween Kills. But this particular trilogy harped on trauma, mob mentality and vice versa especially of a town come one man who can die but happens to a bit more. That’s different than what Halloween was really digging into.

They made it seem like the whole thing was going to be an all out brawl and that's what people expected then when they didn't get that a lot of people were upset. I get why some people are upset but also if you get past how it was advertised/sold the movie is a solid entry for sure.

The life of Corey...I mean Halloween Ends was atrocious and no amount of cognitive dissonance from anyone will change my mind. And for Michael Myers fans we all know why this movie sucked. Nobody cares to see new characters become the main characters and only have Michael sit this one out. We want to see the most iconic horror villain of all time unleash fury with his supernatural evil powers at least for part of the movie if not most. The fact he dies is one thing as he dies in half the Halloween movies technically in one way or another but to have him only make a cameo appearance that gets not only beat up by a kid that got beat up by a16 hr old band geek but he then gets his as*handed to him by an elderly woman is beyond pathetic. Should have just not even had Michael in this movie if you were gona do him this dirty and make him not only not threatening but not even scare anyone at any time.
