If it is any consolation, I'm usually cringing at English versions (covers/translated) songs. Your voice actually resonates really well to the original piece. I'd recommend going for the full 3 minutes. Don't be afraid to take some lyrical liberties; nothing will translate perfectly and I think you have the talent.
