Setting up PayPal Donations on WordPress with Give

Hi Sterling! Pending payments for PayPal Standard can be caused by few things. Caching, donor not completing the donation, or something blocking the IPN. I can't seem to get my paypal account to be accepted. I followed the directions and have the correct account and password yet I cannot enter the information without getting an error message. Has something changed since this video was first posted?

Hi Linda! First I want to make sure you're connecting to PayPal Standard as in the video (you most likely are😊). Second, are you the account owner? On some occasions some folks can manage an account, but aren't the owners. Lastly, are there any visible errors that are telling you you aren't connected? If so, what do you see? Sometimes we see "We can't complete your donation. This organization's account is inactive" If so, this error is coming from Paypal. First, make sure you are using the correct email associated with your Paypal account in Donations -> Settings -> Payment Gateways -> Paypal Standard. If you were using a sandbox email, and are now taking live donations, make sure that the email has been changed to the correct email. On that same page, also change PayPal Transaction Type to Standard Transaction and test if that makes a difference. Let me know if that works. KZbin isn't the best for this kind of stuff, so you can also go to wordpress.org/support/plugin/give/ for support or, if you've purchased a GiveWP plan or add-on, go to givewp.com/login/ Have a good day!

If you are configuring a site for a client, you will need full access to their PayPal account to connect to the PayPal Donations Gateway. The PayPal Stndard gateway, all you need is their PayPal email entered into the settings at Donations > Settings > Payment Gateways > PayPal > PayPal Standard. It's not currently possible to connect to multiple PayPal accounts on the same site.

Is the PayPal Standard account the same as a regular Pay Pal account? Do I have to have Stripe to receive credit card donations form others?

PayPal Standard is not the same as PayPal Pro. All three can accept credit cards, but PayPal Standard is off-site and hides credit card as an option (probably because they first want you to donate via PayPal). With both Stripe and PayPal Pro you can accept credit cards directly on your site. However, Stripe is far superior to PayPal Pro in doing so. I recommend using PayPal Standard and Stripe. Don't bother with PayPal Pro.

Hello Chuck, that would depend on the structure of your organization. Are you part of a 501(c)(3)? - if so, the "donation" option is likely your choice. If you are an individual and not a nonprofit, the "standard transaction" is likely the option you should be choosing.

If you're having problems with PayPal donations (typical in non-US countries) then I suggest going with PayPal Standard. It's tried an true.

We don't support that officially, but we do have a snippet that would allow you to designate a different PayPal Standard email address per form. See here: github.com/impress-org/givewp-snippet-library/blob/master/gateway-customizations/paypal/paypal-standard-mutliple-accounts.php Keep in mind two important things: 1. This is custom code that YOU will own when you install it. It is not something we can provide technical support for. 2. PayPal is deprecating the PayPal Standard API in favor of the new PayPal Commerce. In GiveWP we call that "PayPal Donations", and currently you cannot connect more than one account with "PayPal Donations" Thank you!

Hello, thanks for the awesome video. I recently set up paypal on my give website. I made the site live and made a donation. The donation page took me to paypal where I was able to make the payment. I was redirected back to wordpress where I saw the pyament went through, but on my paypal account the amount is still $0. I was wondering what this could be? Thanks in advance
