Okay so i don't know much about racing, but it looks like a takeaway from this video is that super sticky tires are actually worse for cornering, not better, which is counterintuitive for me

I think the AI calculated more cornering speed than it actually had, so the cars braked less and therefore entered corners far too fast for the suspension to handle, hence rolling. Otherwise, this seems more like suspension was made infinitely stiff and not tires infinitely sticky. Infinite grip tires should mean no under/oversteer but idk. I think the cars just turned too fast. These results are weird.

Yeah, the more traction you have for tires, the better. This is how BeamNG's *AI* reacts to the tires, and since they normally don't have to deal with rollover due to tires losing traction first, the video demonstrates a flaw in their logic capabilities.

I suspect it's more that the AI doesn't include weight transfer in its calculations. It sees infinite grip and assumes it can literally corner like it's on rails.

Nah dude, you're on it.. soft, sticky tires *are* better for cornering, but with higher speeds, grip isn't the only consideration in how quick you can blast through a turn. High Grip + High Speed + No Weight Distribution, Suspension, Aero, Etc Adjustments = Grip-Roll! There are certainly other factors than just tire compound contributing to the results we see here, such as weight transference, downforce, and the lack of a grappling hook launcher.

Good point. Not one of the AIs tried slowing down coming into those corners -- even though every car ahead of them is flipping over. That's why it's called "artificial" intelligence.

My guess is the game took the infinite grip into the calculation, which broke the calculation, and the AI just did not respond accordingly, entering corners far too fast under the calculation that they could make the turn.

i've actually been fighting this in beamng with the pessima hillclimb. got some stickier tires and now it can and often does get up on two wheels (even flipped it a couple times) btu that presents another challenge. i want to accelerate so i need to lock up the diffs so it will, but that hurts the car's ability to even corner in the first place. also, it has up to 6000hp (gear dependent boost controller) so it is ABSURDLY fast and quick making it a hard car to properly drive.

IRL, if the tires had infinite grip (like an asphalt rudder), the tire would demount itself instantly. Assuming they didn't, the wheels would fail first, followed by the hub/lugs. The failure point would just move inward. Think of hitting a curb. I'm surprised the physics engine doesn't take this into account.

Because the cars can't "slide" when going into the corner you can think of it as full lock steering at high speed.

AI's logic: I need to slow down enough so that I don't lose traction going around this turn. *Give the AI tires that don't lose traction ever* AI's logic: I don't need to slow down nearly as much because these tires have insane traction. The AI doesn't take into account the center of gravity when determining the speed to take the turn at.

How exactly does this work? From the looks of it, the cars are going full speed into the corners without breaking, and because the tires are gripping to the road the cars flip over instead of sliding/spinning out. Is the AI taking tire grip into account when cornering, but not downforce?

I-I don't understand the science behind that. I mean, I understood towards the end that traction =/= grip, but I am dumbfounded. I am thinking that even with normal tires, they would had all slipped out anyway because they came in way too fast, but maybe it's part of what high traction means?
