Never have I ever felt that a 43 minute video SHOULD BE LONGER 😅 This is a fantastic series, and I hope you would do more similar feedback videos Pat. I learned so much from the strengths and weaknesses of these photos based on your comments. Thank you.

4:32 you talk abt the timing here, but don't forget that he probably timed for the passing tram's gap to be centered which sells it a lot more than the guy's position being a bit to the left

I think these kind of reviews are more useful when you go trough a lot of pictures and you give quick comments and tips about them, and when there is picture that can be good or bad but you think it deserves more attention you can spend more time on it. Having said that I'll give you anyway a thumb up to support the channel and time you put on this one.
@patkay
@patkay 2 жыл бұрын
thanks for your opinion! personally, i really don't like giving quick comments about images because that's not real feedback. in my opinion, it's better to go deep on a few than to go shallow on many, but hey, we're different people. i appreciate you taking the time to give me your thoughts on this anyways!
@simonestaffoli

@@patkay of course, I thought it would have just been more considerate for the people who spent their time answering your post with their pics, but again it was just a suggestion I know other people might and should disagree, but to give you a bit more context, the reason why I think these kind of videos are useful is that some of the stuff you say will resonate with me, next time I'm out shooting, and If you have said more times the same things about different picture, they usually stick more into my mind.

The timing of the train’s movement was exquisite. The gap between the cars is precisely centered. I’d imagine that was the goal of the composition, and the position of the people in the street was simply ancillary.

what i dont understand is you're saying okay, prioritize the picture so there's a strong focus... but what if the focus is to tell the viewer that the this is what this place has.... the focus are those elements, those houses, those towers, not the people or the person. sometimes you just want to know what this location looks like and the landscape of it, if you evaluate the picture using this criteria where there's always a human subject or the priority is on one single thing you will make the mistake of missing the point entirely. isn't that myopic? i'm not a photographer or an artist, but i feel like these artistic shots use a lot of patterns and techniques, but in my field, technique should never supersede the organic structure. that is, you should let the structure emerge from the problem that you solve and not force your own expectation on that problem because in doing so, you're biasing yourself to one path rather than attempting your best to deliver a solution in an effective way. in other words, what if the point is sophistication? i can look at something that's sophisticated and find it pleasing, i love staring at landscape, the stars, or even map. these are examples where there are plenty of details an many things to unpack which is the complete opposite of a single-subject shot. i dont agree that you have to force these techniques on an image and take away from the organic vision of the image from the photographer's frame of reference. does every shot have to be novel to make it interest??? i dont think so....

This is a great video but im kinda disappointed to see just one style of street photography. No use of layers, or people up close. Think Alex Webb or Daido Moriyama. Nor different kinds of patterns synonymous with street photograph like juxtaposition. Its like everyone is copying your style and you're encouraging your viewers to do more of that.

@@devincutter_Depends on how you see it. The photographer pool is from his viewers so they probably sent him something he would like which is in his "style". I can see this being a good thing since he's a teacher/mentor to a lot of his viewers and they are able to emulate him.
