Would you stay with a 95 inch kit or go with the 97, 98 or even the 100 inch Sidewinder bolt on?
@anchorsaweigh98934 жыл бұрын
As I’ve posted before I did do the SE 95 set up on my 2002 FXDL. I did add an oil cooler. The power is decent and the motor has been unbelievably reliable. I think if I was going to upgrade again that S&S 100 Sidewinder Kit looks mean and super easy. Also fairly cheap.

Watching your channel has caused me to spend a little bit of money. I have 2000 Heritage Soft-tail (carbureted) which started out pretty much stock. First I upgraded the cam plate with a Screamin Eagle setup and an S&S 509 cam set. To get it to start and idle a little better I re-jetted the carb and exposed the air/fuel mixture adjustment screw and adjusted that. I was somewhat happy with the results but like most Harley riders I thought I could get more out of the old girl. I then saw this video and purchased the S&S 100 kit. I had this installed by a credible Harley mechanic, he also sent the heads off for refurbishment and some porting. He also suggested installing Twin Tec ignition module and oil cooler which I have also done as well as a better air cleaner. It wasn't loud enough so put a set of Vance and Hines 2 into 2 pipes on it. With all that I'm still not very impressed with the performance. I haven't had it dyno tested, so I can't give any specifics. It starts good but I can tell a cam with a compression release would nice. Other than buying a bigger bike I'm sure what else I can do, plus my wife would kill me. I've also considered a Mikuni carb but can't handle anymore disappointment. Any Ideas?

They repaired them lighten& trued them .I put the 254E cams in myself .At the time of cams I had it on the Dyno, It tuned out at 79.7 hp & 80.5 ft lb of torq . It also had Fuel injectors upgraded to the 29 degree also fueling cam plate & high volume oil pump. I also put in the screaming eagle Sprocket compensator , the Harley variable pressure plate in the clutch in prep for the 100" . I don't know the what the out put is right now as I also upgraded the ECM to the thunder Max. I scared the hell out of a 117cu road glide one night would have smoked him but broke my clutch cable . I did this build on a 2006 Dyna Streetbob . my build is about a year old .

He and his wife have ridden the bike from Ohio to CA and it's a daily rider -- no problems whatsoever.

Those B engines are awesome, the balancer system actually worked too well and caused issues with the transmission to fall between gears. They had to give it some vibration to help complete shifts. The loss is only maybe 2 horsepower at wide open throttle with balancer.

@Dbiker75Tex244 жыл бұрын
Yes that would be correct , but, on my 88 I’ve found that the kits only offer the basic kit, and, I’m kind of lost as to what I need to actually buy, and, I don’t want to order parts I don’t need. I honestly think I could manage the install, but, my mechanic ability Belgians to fail the order forms like; do I need a install kit, do I need new bearing , can I use my stock cam plate and oil pump, if I buy the 100 sidewinder do I need new valve springs, should I by new heads or send them out to be reworked, which parts should be installed first. I think a video explaining this on a 96 or a 88 would be a very informative video.
@GixxerFoo4 жыл бұрын
You can still use your stock heads with the 100 inch kit, even the stock cam if you wanted to. It just wouldn't take full advantage of the added displacement. Valve springs are really dependent on the cam you use, cam manufacturers will specify if you can run stock springs or if you need to upgrade. Just depends how aggressive the cam is, now replacing bearings is all a good idea with a build. The stock cam plates are fine, but a billet cam plate adds more support but isn't really necessary unless you really ride hard.

What would you recommend for injectors for 100 hp harley motor
@GixxerFoo2 жыл бұрын
At 100 horse you're good with the stock injectors, once you start pushing the motor up over 110 that's when it's going to be time to start looking at a bit larger injector. Too big of an injector can do more harm than good, here's a video about injector sizing that explains more kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpLMhIGco7GZqcU

@GixxerFoo2 жыл бұрын
The case bore is smaller on the 88 so the drop on jugs won't fit the 88. You'd need to go with 95 inch cylinders and then a stroker crank. The 100 inch drop on kit the biggest one out there for the 88 with the stock crank.

There are several deals available doing the big bore kit, as of June 2022, that seem appealing. I have done the S&S 509G upgrade and am now considering whether to go with new cylinder heads or doing the bore. 97" is under $1,000 and 100" is just wee bit over that. My bike is a 2003 FLHTCI with 26,000 miles on it. I am willing to put another couple of thousand dollars into it just to increase reliability for a cross country trip. It has plenty of power and torque, for an old guy! I can do all of my own work. What do you think, new cylinder heads or the big bore kit?

@@GixxerFoo Stator and overheating?
@omarsalgado97154 жыл бұрын
@@shizuokaBLUES As for the stator, no problem. As for the overheating, it is an issue if the bike is driven in a traffic jam, but anyway, an air cooled motor likes continuous riding, so overheating is not even a concern if air flow is constant.
@shizuokaBLUES4 жыл бұрын
Omar Salgado well my stator melted this summer because of the insane heat and humidity (and exactly as you said -being caught in a traffic jam). But it was 18 years old and this is central Japan 🥵 so what do I expect eh? I’ve never had an oil cooled engine before because my bikes have always been Yamahas or Suzuki’s built for these brutal summers. Live and learn. Thanks for your comment. As for bike as a non-investment I agree. My investments and savings are there to pay for things like this and that’s part of the joy of life if you are blessed enough to afford it. But I will say that ....selling a made-in-Shizuoka Yamaha SR400 (single /40 year old design) for an older dyna with built-in issues WAS one of the stupider things I’ve ever done. I’ve gone from loving riding in the mountains to quietly dreading it. Will it break down YET AGAIN? Will it cost me another 1K or another 2K? What’s next -the starter? The main bearing ? The transmission bearing ? I’ve realized that riding an older Harley is a hobby and should be your second or third bike. The first one or two being Japanese or newer harleys (and you have a serious garage and tools) So I half agree with you and half can’t quite see due to the mistake I’ve made of listening to Harley fans Who won’t objectively look at their bikes (out of loyalty and ego) and only encourage others to be more like them. But live and learn and be grateful for even having a beautiful old motorcycle , a luxury in and of itself. This I Know Happy riding and cheers 🍻

@@shizuokaBLUES Such a sad thing, really. I think you bought a seriously trashed bike. I say this because I own two H-Ds, one since very brand new 2007 Sportster and a used 2005 Softail, which both have needed maintenance, one from abuse and the other from being stored almost seven years, but not tragic failures. Indeed, I can state that the abused one, the Sportster, has stood all the beating like a champ. I remember one day that I rode it for 14 continuous hours and it never hesitated. Indeed, the stator broke years later due to maintenance negligence. That's why I say you bought a very abused bike in the interior. But overall, if proper maintenance is done in time and form, the bikes are bulletproof, and though I own a couple, I'm not that of a fan, because I like other brands, including the Japanese sport bikes. I have to tell you that any bike will have its issues if abused and not maintained, including the Japanese ones, which I've seen broken down on the road. Greetings.

S&S air cleaner back plate kit. 203 cams with Upgraded cam tensioner and cam plate & pump & bearings. I wanted to do heads however all the heads had too much running compression. SE ignition for cams and big bore kit. Now Harley has Factory ported heads that keep compression stock as 203 cams need to stay under 9.5 static . I feel this is a good upgrade for 88 or 95 milled motors. I really comes on around 60 mph. However t don't do much hyw driving. I don't want to have to upgrade my starter as it is sensitive to hot starts sometimes. I'm running a oil filter billet cooler which looks cool lol. Any thoughts 💬💭
