Honestly I think Obanai’s possessive nature is a result of his backstory. He was raised in a home that saw him as a sacrifice, and that whole household was made of women. It’s canon that Obanai hates women because of this and is scared of them. The only women he truly doesn’t despise and loves is Mitsuri. So he is being possessive for one of these reasons: 1) he doesn’t want the one thing he is able to fall in love with, (and be loved by), to be stolen away from. He wants it because he never had it, and so he is very protective of that love he is being given. 2) Due to Mitsuri being the only women he has ever truly not despised, he feels the need to protect her and block away any potential threats to her, because he sees her as a rare and sacred thing that can easily be taken away, once again relating to the fact that it is the only thing that has ever loved him. Or rather, the first thing to ever love him. Obanai’s hostility toward Tomioka when he is with Mitsuri is further fed due to the fact that Obanai doesn’t like Giyuu. Of course there are other possibilities, and I’m not eliminating them. I’m just presenting the most likely reasons. The possessive behavior should not be excused and should be dealt with in a healthy way. However, this behavior does have an explanation on why it is happening. An explanation is not the same as an excuse. Obanai is in the wrong, but he has a reason (and in my opinion, a very strong reason) to act this way. Obanai thinks of Mitsuri and the love she projects as something sacred. Think of it as an animal protecting their offspring. That parental instinct kicks in pretty strong when their young are threatened. Many people confuse Obanai’s actions in the Manga as jealousy. It isn’t jealousy, it’s protectiveness. (And when I say Mitsuri is the first thing that truly loved him, I’m excluding Kaburamaru from the equation). I made this way more deep than it had to be but whatever.

Imo this video is a bit exaggerating his personality, while yes he is jealous of others he definitely doesn't act obsessive towards her, he always acts aggressive towards tanjiro (you could see that in s2 when uzui told him tanjiro survived) plus obanai has nothing against rengoku when his father literally saved him from the hell he called home and is very much aware of mitsuris sensei like student relationship with rengoku, never has she shown that in the manga she was uncomfortable with his jealous behavior bc his canon behavior isn't anything like shown in the video, he keeps his jealousy to himself, plus mitsuri isn't even close to giyuu, its canon that she thinks he could talk more but they aren't close as shown in the video, the only hashiras who have positive comments on giyuu are mitsuri gyomei, rengoku in short Giyuu isn't close to any of the hashiras bc he's usually alone and doesn't see himself as one. Plus obanai is aware of Uzui's wifes and its been already shown how much he cares and loves them and im pretty sure he's aware of how mitsuri,rengoku and uzui get along. Uzui suplexed them both (rengoku(or maybe it was shinobu idrk) and mitsuri) on his shoulder in a manga cover i think. Obanai might act like his past hasn't affected him but i assure you it has, very deeply and he just suffers in silence. Read more into his backstory you might sympathize with him and see his side of things instead of hating him like everyone in the comments is.

Spoliers⛔️ Iguro never loved anyone before when he was little even though he was surrounded by women all of them treated him poorly So i guess he never felt any love from anyone. At least when Aoi stepped aside for Kanao when she found out she liked Tanjiro too, Kanao and Tanjiro’s affection was healthy, genuine, mutual, and supportive. We all know that people like shipping Obanai and Mitsuri for aesthetic purposes (“pastel goth”) and not because they are actually pillars for what a functioning and positively beneficial relationship should look like. Rengoku and Mitsuri would have made an amazing romantic couple, because they would have radiated their joy to those around them. Obanai just cancels all the positive vibes everywhere he goes. obanai is a great character and all but hes a little too overprotective to mitsuri when she talks to other guys which is kinda controlling he shouldnt do that and let mitsuri have her own choices i mean i know why obanai does this with his story i dont blame him but sometimes it just take too far for his love for mitsuri (also i feel like mitsuri will already know if a guy or a girl will flirt with her in a romantic way mitsuri can deal with them by herself shes a strong girl)

Obanai wouldn’t be controlling. He loves Kanroji and holds bunches of respect for her, I believe he would never act possessive/controlling towards her. Overprotectiveness and Controlling are two different words that are similar, yes, but still have different meanings. Overprotective means he will act protective over her, perhaps scowling at people who try to hug her or hold a grudge, but controlling is simply where somebody forces or controls their partner to do something. Also, this is simply explaining Obanai isn’t possessive or controlling since some people are saying he is.
