Dave, great review as always. I bought this little gem 2 weeks ago and it is indeed feature rich. It is awesome for talking on a walk and to the gym, I'm not lugging my phone around. It's so easy to use that when I got home from work last week my 80 year old Mom was using my Meze 109 Pros via the 4.4 adapter and singing along to some Elvis. It was awesome! Solid buy in my book

I have the M0Pro with the balanced adapter, and what I hear is quite different than what you are describing. It is warm and lush and inviting with anything I have plugged in…the bass is solid and rumbles where it needs to, the vocals and violins soar, the cymbals and chimes sing…though I do not have any full-sized phones to test it with. It is certainly not “thin” in any way. But then, different ears. I am convinced a balanced output has way more advantages than just more power. I use it about half time as player, and half time as DAC to stream AppleMusic. There is a lot of interest in this player. My review on my very small (and pretty much non-iem) channel has gotten over 3.3k views since I posted it. :) My only frustration with the thing is that the artist, album, and song titles do not scroll in the My Music listings…which makes it sometimes hard to find the music I am looking for when using it as a player. :)

Can you talk a bit more about the balanced adapter like where you get it and what it is called? I was under the impression that going from single ended to balanced was forbidden like cutting the tags off a mattress.

The 3.5mm outlet is not a “standard” 3.5 single ended. It has all the connections for balanced. When you plug in a 3.5mm jack the different contacts “bridge” the balanced output and deliver single ended. I think it might be used on a very few Sony headphones. The 4.4mm adapter plugs in and separates out the balanced output to a standard 4.4mm output. Plug in any 4.4mm balanced plug and you are good to go. :) It looks like a mini dongle.

@@koningklootzak7788 I only listen on the balanced output…I am sure the extra power on the 3.5, and maybe the better dac chip and amp chips improves the unbalanced output, but I an convinced that balances is always going to give you better details and soundstage. :)

I connect it to my sabaj A20H amplifier and activate the line output and use it with some Hifiman HE400SE It's amazing what you can do with such a small player 😁

My Shanling M0 Pro freezes. Switching on usually succeeds on the 3rd or 4th attempt. Exceptionally for the 1st attempt. I tried waiting, but after 15 minutes I gave up. I have tried various advice and recommendations. Unfortunately, it looks like a defective piece. I am dealing with it in the complaint procedure. When I can turn the player on, the sound is great! I believe that we will solve the complaint with the seller and I will enjoy great sound! P.S: Has the player frozen for anyone?

Could the M0Pro replace the Qudelix 5k? I have the Qudelix and I love it, but my new phone doesnt accept sd card so I wanted a small device to house my flac library, and a small dap like the M0pro or even something like the Hidizs AP80 pro seemed like a good alternative because they can be a all in one device. To my understanding the M0pro have all the features and connection that the Qudelix has and much more (like bt transmiter, sd card slot), they also have similar output power in the single ended jack. Does anyone has any opinion on this?

Qudelix 5K is an awesome little instrument and is simply irreplaceable. I have a few other dac/amps which are quite good as well but I always reach out for the qudelix 5K. It's versatility is unmatched. By following a few others on you tube I understand that standalone dacs such as qudelix and fiio bt when paired with a phone can easily outperform and give you better performance than many stand alone high end DAPs and so DAPS seem to be the redundant part of listening experience here. A small and a low priced DAP such as m0pro or surfans f20, however are a great addition to store all your flac files.

Great review! I have a question, I already have a Fiio M5 and I want to buy another one in order to use it permanently in my speakers. Should I buy another Fiio M5 or is better the Shanling M0 Pro to listen with IEM's?

@@engelbeer ty for the comment!! I also have the Fiio M5 and is perfect for me. The only reason I would choose the M0 Pro is for the Balanced option it offers but I didnt care at all since I only have IEM's. I don't have the SD Card issue you have, maybe is for the firmware, the last one is the 1.4.7

@@Gabo-rd3ic my Fiio m5 has the 1.4.7. Firmware too. I have tried diferent SD cards diferent capacities and Always the same problem, it freezes and says "unable to read the card". I used it as a bluetooth receiver or usb dac and there it works fine

@@engelbeer That's really weird. I have a 256GB SD Card Samsung Evo Plus and it works perfect, I have more than 6k songs there and everytime I update my music the Fiio reads it perfectly. :/

Even Bluetooth 5.2 is the version that has audio improvements over Bluetooth 5.0 The Bluetooth 5.0 release date was July 2016, waste of money to me.
