What Is Islam? Islam is not just another religion. It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham. Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God. It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone. It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine. The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as: { “Say, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and there is nothing like Him.”} (Quran 112:1-4) Becoming a Muslim is not turning your back to Jesus. Rather it’s going back to the original teachings of Jesus and obeying him

I think the ring of damage is created by the momentum of the mass of the balls shape. Think of it this way if you drew lines perpendicular to the screen through the ping pong ball what areas would have more and less mass hitting it. As you move away from the center of the ping pong ball the mass concentration increases then reduces again. That would be the shape of the valley you see.
@MikkoRantalainen2 жыл бұрын
That and also the force required to deform the ball. The center of the ball is obviously much easier to push into concave form than the edge coming in orthogonally.
@WarrenGarabrandt4 жыл бұрын
The air molecules aren't being "sucked" into the vacuum of the tube. They are always bouncing around at basically the speed of sound bumping into everything and each other at these crazy high speeds. When you puncture the mylar, the molecules just keep on doing what they're already doing. They bump into the ping pong ball the exact same way as they do normally, except with a near vacuum on the other side of the ping pong ball, the ball is pushed forward due to the imbalance of forces. Some of the air rushes ahead of the ball (between the ball and the wall of the tube), and most of it impacts the ball accelerating it forward. As the ball nears the far end of the tube, the residual air from the near vacuum, plus all the air that got around the ball all get compressed by the inertia of the ball and the inrushing air behind the ball, exploding the mylar on that end of the tube. The ball experiences a sudden, strong, and continuous acceleration for the first part of the way down the tube. The acceleration tapers off as the ball reaches equilibrium speed with the air, then the ball starts to strongly, but briefly decelerate as it encounters the trapped air and mylar at the far end. You might think that the longer the tube, the faster the ball, but that's actually not really true. If the tube is too short, the ball encounters the end before the air fully accelerates it. If the tube is too long, the ball has reached max speed and starts to decelerate due to the trapped air in the end of the tube pushing back. There is an ideal length that is going to be based on the mass of the ball, the density of the air, and the temperature of the air (average speed of molecules). An even more fun experiment that smashing a perfectly good phone purely for clickbait views is to make a series of tubes and optimize it to maximize the exit velocity of the ball. Another fun experiment would be to see how long the tube needs to be before the ball's velocity is completely cancelled before it can exit the tube.
@MikkoRantalainen2 жыл бұрын
I fully agree. If you want more speed, use compressed air before the first mylar film and maybe allow the first mylar film to rupture from the air pressure.

Edited again: Here's the video from another physicist who did it differently and reached way higher speeds. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGaVqnaCaNmGfbM Check the Mythbusters episode on their experiments with their vaccuum cannon. They found that an extremely long tube allowed too much air to pass the ping pong ball due to the required minimum distance between the ball and the inner wall of the tubing. Otherwise friciton between the wall and the ball would slow down the ball. So once a certain length is exceeded, enough air passes by the ball creating an air buffer in front of the ball which might even result in the ball stoping inside the tube. How long this was I can't remember but IIRC they tried with a 30 yard tube, then reduced it to 10 yards, and then back down again. They also found that creating a high pressure behind the rear seal which is released at the same time that the membrane is broken causes an incredible boost to the speed of well past super-sonic.

@bluegizmo19834 жыл бұрын
100ft of tube would actually makes it slower. If the tube is too long, air has time to slip around the ball and get in front of it, thus causing an air cushion in front and stopping/slowing the ball before it exits the tube. For Max speed, you need a tube about the size used in this video, PLUS an air tank and quick release valve behind the tube so your essentially popping the seal behind the ball with more than atmospheric air pressure. With a setup like I described, you can absolutely get the ball going faster than the speed of sound!
@MikkoRantalainen2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the limit is how good seal the ball makes with the tube. The better the seal, the longer tube you can use.

Could you Do that with a heavier projectile, or is it dependent on the low mass of the Ball?
@OtherTheDave4 жыл бұрын
David Petry The high speed _partially_ depends on the low mass, but it’ll work to some degree with anything that plugs the pipe and doesn’t have too much friction.
@MikkoRantalainen2 жыл бұрын
@@OtherTheDave I agree. The reason it works so well with ping pong ball is that the ball is so light that it can travel easily with the rushing air. With heavier objects the air leaking from the sides (because of slower acceleration of heavier object) would be greater and it would work as air brake before the exit mylar film.
@OtherTheDave2 жыл бұрын
@@MikkoRantalainen True. Well, unless you seal it better, but then you’ve gotta figure out how to overcome the friction. Maybe you could mitigate both issues by giving it an initial kick with a piston or something? I’m not sure… I don’t remember if drag and friction scale nonlinearly. Regardless, I doubt a ping pong ball would stand up to it.

To the Dianna's comment about getting above the speed of sound. I would think that the speed of sound would be the maximum speed that air would rush in to the tube, and therefore the absolute maximum speed for the projectile. Just because the bouncing of air molecules to and from each other and other things is what we feel and measure as air pressure anyway. So in a horizontal tube there isn't anything else pushing air molecules in to the tube besides other air molecules when they collide (vacuum is not suction). And another note. Did you do a control test without a ping pong ball (or any projectile) to see what damage, if any, just fast moving air and few shards of mylar would have done to the phone (or any of your targets).

Not sure your theory on why this was left with ring shaped indentation is correct. We perceive a ball as a solid object, but it obviously is not. So the gut feeling that the point of contact puts the most force on the screen is not correct imo. Similar to that bit of golden foil that flew out later on, the most forward part of the ball is just a big flat floppy surface that has little structura integrity to impart a force. What follows as the ball moves forward are the ring shaped sides. If wer to cut the front and back off, that ball would look a bit like a tube, like a short TP role core. Just like a sheet of paper that is rolled into a tube, if you put pressure along the direction of the tube, it is very strong, even if the material appears week otherwhise. So as that part of the ball hits the screen, it's like a far more solid ring shaped object is punching it. Of course it's gonna leave a ring shaped indentation.

If the ping pong ball is traveling 450 M/s it is already over the speed of sound which is 343 M/s or 1125 F/s. If your 450 M/s is correct your ping pong ball is traveling Mach 1.3582855 this is true at STP, your elevation temperature and humidity would change the exact numbers but you would still be over Mach 1.

And it's possible that if I knew more about how that is made, I might not think the same. I don't think it'll hit the wall. Not necessarily because the force won't be enough, but mostly because I think, unless the ball hits dead center, it might flip the phone and send it spinning.
