IMO, it's the best rendition of the blues I've ever seen. A close runner up might be Anissina & Peizerat's at the 2002 Olympics.

An amazing dance. It is incredible they won this dance by only 1 judge over Usova & Zhulin who had a horrible Blues (for top team standards) with the Chowtaw on the wrong edge. I had Usova & Zhulin 1st in the 1st CD, but only 4th in the 2nd. Granted on the same note, given how ice dance worked back then, it is incredible Usova & Zhulin did not cruise to 1st place in every dance and the Olympic gold, as Russian #1. That G&P were taken seriously at all means U&Z did something that put them out of favor within Russia I suspect. Which is silly to say, but again given how ice dance worked back then.
@gk891
@gk891 Жыл бұрын
G&P winning silver over U&Z at Europeans earlier that year kind of put G&P into the spot of Russian #1. And allegedly Dubova got into a huge spat with the Russian skating federation in 1993 which pushed them to start favouring G&P even though they nearly dropped G&P in the previous season. The only thing I disagree with you is placing U&Z first in the Starlight Waltz. While graceful and waltzy, they didn't trace the pattern out as well as G&P did in my personal opinion. I also found U&Z's Starlight waltz lacking in power and flow. But that's just my opinion. I know many feel differently and that's completely fine.
@rolandgreen7484
@rolandgreen7484 Жыл бұрын
@@gk891 G&P's Golden Waltz was not really a waltz at all, so I would still place U&Z first in that dance inspite of the points you mentioned. And T&D's Golden Waltz was pretty lacklustre, I actually had them 4th or 5th in that dance. I agree on the Europeans result and momentum, but given how ice dance worked something had to have happened before Europeans probably. Which it turns out sounds like something did.

@@rolandgreen7484 In my personal opinion, respecting the theme of the dance and expressing it well is only one aspect of ice dance. The quality of the skating is more important. For example, at the 1987 Worlds, B&B placed first in the Westminster Waltz even though both K&P and A&S were much more graceful and waltzy in their waltzes. But B&B traced out the pattern in a far superior manner. And unlike A&S and K&P, the size of B&B's pattern stayed consistent each time they repeated it unlike the other two Soviet teams whose patterns kept getting smaller each time they repeated it. And B&B did not lose any speed or flow after the lady does her inside three turn. But if one places greater emphasis on presentation and expression, I can see why some would prefer U&Z in the 1994 Starlight Waltz even though the compulsories are supposed to be displays of technique.

Was not a fan of this team, but that does not take away from this being a well skated Blues CD. They had nice, deep, smooth edges, good extension, good knee action and excellent unison.
@gk891

Indeed. Her line and extension were impeccable in the compulsories. Those aspects of her skating could become suspect in the OD and FD however.

I'm personally more of a fan of Anissina and Peizerat's blues (though I'm biased because they are my favourite team of all time), but these two are just incredible. They are both such brilliant skaters; they have beautiful lines (especially Evgeni, imo), their edges are so deep and the footwork so clean that if you only look at their upper bodies they don't even seem to be touching the ice. A/P's blues is still my personal favourite because of their chemistry and interpretation (I think one of their many strengths was that they were able to portray the character of every compulsory very efficiently, turning a technical element into a work of art), but this is probably the best technical performance of any compulsory dance I have ever seen.
@gk891
@gk891 5 күн бұрын
I can agree with you to an extent. Technically, I prefer G&P's blues. Artistically, I prefer A&P's. Have you ever seen G&P's tango romantica from the 1996 Worlds? It's absolutely stunning. As was their silver samba.
@elisasanguinetti5639
@elisasanguinetti5639 5 күн бұрын
@gk891 I had seen the Silver Samba, but not the Tango Romantica. Both of those were wonderful, but I think the Silver Samba was just a tad smoother with a better flow (though I'm not a technical expert so take my words with a pinch of salt). And it seemed to me that their free legs were slightly mismatched at the very beginning of the pattern during the TR, did you also notice that? It's during the part where they turn together on one leg while the other is held parallel to the ice: I think Evgeni's free leg dropped slightly lower than Pasha's (though again, I'm not an expert and it's the only "flaw" in the performance that I saw). However, Pasha particularly shined during any tango performance, it was a style that really suited her.
@gk891
@gk891 4 күн бұрын
@@elisasanguinetti5639 The silver samba is a much much easier compulsory dance than the tango romantica so it's much easier to maintain better flow in that dance. Not just for G&P but for all couples.

Completely alluring. Watch it in slo mo. I would like her to not roll her head back on the RFO before the swing roll on the end. I know the feeling of wanting to do that, but a little less there wouldn't be less intoxicating. How interesting to see her accomplish just what my Russian-trained coach is telling me to do (as if). It is beautiful here though.
