Having seen this at Animation is Film, it's a lovely piece! For anyone wondering about the natural dialogue and fluid animation, the film was shot on film then rotoscoped over about 5 years, and the majority of audio was taken from that live shoot - some scenes even keep the echo and atmospherics you would typically edit out, giving it a very unique feel. Definitely recommend!

I really adore the colors used and the art-style. Things like 0:40 remind me of Gen Hoshino's I Wanna Be Your Ghost music video when it comes to the spirits sitting around like that.

Amazing, highly-anticipated film from GKids as always. I prefer the original Japanese audio than the English dub. A lot of things get lost in translation, that's why.

And I like to have options, like having both English dub and original Japanese available on physical disc releases. Best of both worlds. A lot gets lost in translation (on first viewing especially), when non-japanese people have to pay attention to both subtitles and subtleties.

@@GKIDStv That's good to hear. I prefer English dub most of the time. It lets me focus on the artwork and music with more ease. If they decide to release their movie in other languages, it should be the duty of the filmmakers to do their best to release excellent translations of their media, for everyone to enjoy them at their best, without getting constantly distracted by reading subtitles.

Whilst I like the overall vibe, I do hope that Japanese animators would stop the same old tired trope of making orphans out of young children to sustain a plot, then reward said children for their immature and highly dangerous/irresponsible ways with happy endings just because they don't have 2 parents to care for them. As a child, I found it to be mildly bemusing, now just oddly offensive as an adult.

It's rotoscope. It's when you trace over live-action recordings of people. It's usually done to add realism.
